Cougar
« on: November 23, 2013, 10:42:15 AM »
  Okay I have a question
We have some cougars in a canyon where I live I've been calling in the same area where I've seen it and the loggers have been seeing them but have only called in coyotes and some bobcats and haven't shot any of them yet  .
My question is should I start moving around or stay put and they will come back through
Thanks

What's your set up like. What calls? How long are your stands? Cougars have large territories so it could be that your just missing them by chance. I'd move around a bit you may have been busted on a previous set and not know it. Change up your tactics a little and good luck.

I have a flextone hd I know it's not a fox pro but it has worked great for coyotes and bobcats for the last two years this year I haven't shot anything because I know if I shoot something besides the cougar I won't get him in  I usually sit for 45 min to an hour and have an electronic furry decoy haven't had any problem calling other stuff in just not the cougar
I use the fawn and rabbit distress calls
Thanks

Personally I'd loose the decoy. You make keep its interest a little longer if it can't see the source of the sound.  Try changing up your sounds if you haven't. I dont know anything about the flextone. Have you checked out rain-shadows calls.  Rain-shadow.com.

Yeah, I would lose the decoy and make the call hard to see or find.i think most cats would like to approach from the up hill side if possible. Keep an eye out on that, and check out rain shadows cougar vocals, that might change the game for you.
