very cold powder

Shot my second deer today it was very cold maybe 0 degrees or less shot dident sound right but the doe went only 50 yards and went down. Was triple 7 ffg with 250 grain bloodline bullet.does the very cold weather effect the powder.still hunting for that big buck.

Not that I've ever seen, and we've hunted in -25 for a week.  More likely that you were shivering when you loaded it and spilled some.  Or you let the gun warm up in the truck or tent and it drew moisture and was almost a misfire.

Don't bring it into the warm truck or house, it will definitely be below the dewpoint.

The gun was never warmed in the truck or tent.I was carful loading but I sure was shaking before the shot.

I've had similar results in very cold weather.  Never did figure it out.  I discharge the gun every evening.  Don't take the gun into warm tents, trucks, etc. Keep the nipple protected from rain/snow. I shoot musket caps.  Oh, well.  Congrats on the clean kill.

  I had a smiler thing happen  hunting back on the east coast  in Maine   and again in new London   ct   in a very heavy rain   .like you i was using 2 f powder   .got on this side and a few good friend kind of clued me in on what could have been the problem  the 2 f is  larger and allows room for air an moisture  to work in much faster  .so they explained to switch  to 3 f powder    burns much faster and you get better results  . now i am not saying they are right or wrong   just    haven't had any problems after made the change in powder  and added a few  tricks of my own, Load at home or a good dry place  before going out,    i put a peace of tape over the muzzle after i run a dry patch down once i have loaded ,  and keep the nipple covered with a dry patch until i cap it for hunting  .and if i remove the cap i put a dry patch back over the nipple    congrats on the clean kill

well I filled my other tag and the gun went bag again but it just dident  sound right and not the same normal recoil. The results on the doe was the same she drop in her tracks. I just don't know what is happening with this gun and load but Iam tagged out and home where it is warm.

Some folks go the entire season with the same charge of powder in their guns.  Nothing wrong with that as long as the gun goes boom when you pull the trigger.  I start each day by firing a musket cap in my unloaded gun.  I run a dry patch down the bore before loading the charge/bullet.  I shoot an old school sidelock and this works for me.  I do not consider myself an expert with frontstuffers.
