Great job Dan!  I think everyone appreciates the effort that you put into that tag.

I for one can certainly appreciate it since I had the raffle tag in 05'.

A 180 buck in WA is a tall order to fill.  Yes there may be a few out there and a few are killed every year, but the total number of hunt days compared to the number of 180+ bucks killed is a clear indication of the rarity of that quality of buck in WA.

When I talked to the governors tag holder in 05', he had been searching for a 190 class buck, hadn't located anything in the 180 class and to my knowledge - failed to fill his tag.

Again, congratulation on the experiance and great job! Enjoy your New Years.

Wow!  What a hunt.  You're posts extended our season by about 5 weeks!  Wish you could have found your buck, but hey, years from now you'll remember this hunt more than any horns that might've been, like all hunts.  Way to stick it out down to the wire.

So rest up, enjoy the after glow, and hurry up and get those pics posted already!

Happy New Year bud.

Congrats on a great hunt!  I'm sorry it didn't work out for a big wall mount.  I hope you enjoyed the country and teh time in the woods and the adventure.  I am happy to have been a tiny part in it.  THANKS!

Thanks for the adventure. My wife walked in and I told her the news. Her response "why did he waste the tag, that was dumb". Man some people just don't understand that it is not all about the kill.

Way to set a goal and stick to it. It is just been a tought year all around for big bucks. You have a memory that will last forever and that is what matters the most. I like looking back at pictures and saying, could have killed that one, could have killed that one, now he will be a better buck next year. I'm sure you will do the same.

Way to go!!! :brew:

300...you're a better man than me. not sure i would have been able to hold out, especially on the last day.
go have a drink for each of the bucks you didn't shoot but thought real hard about shooting, as long as somebody's there to get you home.
cheers, happy new years, and again thanks for taking us along. my wife will never understand this one.

The "success" of a hunt can only be measured in "the" hunters eyes...... Be proud of your choices and thanks for the ride. Hope to do it again with next years winner.

I didnt discover this site until about two weeks ago and i must say this is the story that kept me coming back day after day.  It was a real joy to read about a hunter who was hunting with a purpose.  It was also good to hear so much positive encouragement from a bunch of guys who are all about hunting, and hunting for the right reasons.  Don't feel bad 300 about not filling the tag, most people might think you are nuts, but no way Jose!!  This was very exciting to follow!

300, I have a lot of respect for someone who sets a goal and sticks to it. Most people will never have a chance to experience what you have and in the end the experience is what its all about.

You knew what you wanted, you stayed true to yourself.  Good on ya!!!!  That was fun!  Looked forward to coming home from work and checking the progress.

Happy New Year 300.

Dan, congratulations are definitely in order here. It takes a real man to set a goal that so very few actually accomplish, and a even bigger man to avoid temptation and stay the course, well done.

“Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.”

I think you have lived up to this quote, one of my favorites!!!

Understandable if you should feel a little down but don't ever think you failed, your a success in my book.
