Upcoming Hunters Ed
« on: December 24, 2013, 08:27:44 PM »
For those in SW Washington, there is a February class coming up.  It will be posted first week of January and limited to 35 students.  Classes will be held at the salmon creek American Legion.  Keep an out for it.  My dad and crew will be teaching the course.

Just curious, how do you justify 18+ hours for a 10 hour minimum course?  I do recall correctly that it is 10 hours min. correct?  This is just very frustrating as someone with a child that wants to do HS but has limited time/access to a course.   :dunno:  Thanks H2O for posting the info, and ghost as well.

My son-in-law just moved from Hawaii.  He would like to get in on this if it works with other classes and family schedules.  We have a new hunter in the family.

I took GhostHunters class. It wasn't unjustifiably long. He covered all chapters in the Hunters Ed pamphlet thoroughly and I feel like each class was all encompassing for whatever the topic of the week was. He might go a little above and beyond, but it's worth it I swear!

I don't justify it .
The state requires a class to be no less than 10 hrs instruction.
The last two dates are testing only. One date exam. One date skills test.
I could do them both on one night but it is harder on the students an instructors.
Both will be over in less time, but I have to plan for unforeseen events.
I personally can not teach a 10 hr class. Nor would I .
My goal is to turn out safe gun handlers. Students handle every class.

People who want to rush through are free to take the on line coarse or go with some one else. I am not into quantity ,  but quality.

I encourage anyone to get certified and start teaching.

:yeah:
my classes are 15 hours but with online registration usually less now. 1st day 2 hour registration/orientation, 4 3 hour class days with a minimum 3 hours of gun handling total mixed in & 1 hour field course and trap shoot as a test of gun handling

Minimum and Maximum Hours, Traditional Course Policy:

Traditional, Instructor-led class shall consist of a minimum of ten (10) hours and a maximum of twenty (20) hours of instruction.

The preferred class length is 15 hours. For all courses exceeding 10 hours, Instructors shall notify students in advance..   A minimum 10-hour course requires 8.5 hours of classroom instruction, with the remaining time allocated at the instructor’s discretion.  All traditional classes must meet the 10-hour minimum standard.  The maximum number of hours in traditional courses is inclusive of field course and optional live-fire exercises.
