I was sold on this new water filter.  Fits in-line with a camel back and does 100,000 gallons of water.  Only weights 2.5 oz's too.  And best part about it is that it only cost 22.00
How does it fit inline? I have one of these already, awesome lil product.

I got binos and a GPS for Christmas so adding those. Might think about overnight gear, probably not though just stick with easy day trips.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

The input and output on the filter is the same size as your camelback hose.  Cut and attach.

Packing in should be about the same, but packing out will include a 30" 4x4

I upgraded my day pack.  I have been using a smaller older version of this for the past 3 or 4 years and I have really liked it.
http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Hunting-Bags-Packs%7C/pc/104791680/c/104392080/Cabelas-Outfitter-Bow-and-Rifle-Hunting-Pack/1608902.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fhunting-bags-packs%2Fcabelas%2F_%2FN-1105017%2B1000002949%2B4294728765%2FNe-1000002949%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104791680%26WTz_st%3DGuidedNav%26WTz_stype%3DGNU&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104791680%3Bcat104392080

While in Dallas last month I stopped in the Fort Worth Cabelas to poke around. Being a backpack groupie I made a pass through the packs. I came across the Eberlestock X2 pack and really liked the looks of it. I ordered one and picked it up in Tulalip a couple weeks ago.

I must say, this is the best day pack hunting pack I have had so far. It has an internal aluminum tube frame that provides stability and holds the pack a few inches off the back to allow for air flow/cooling. It has a large center pouch, two large wing pouches that fold in and out from the sides to allow for expansion. It also has a top cover with a zippered compartment similar to a traditional backpacking pack. There are ample molly connection points as well. It is a little heavy at 4.5-5 pounds but that seems to come with the territory if you want something large enough to carry gear and stable enough to handle weight.

The reviews say it can handle a quarter elk pretty easily and I have seen some fans on this site as well.

I took it out on a run to Mailbox two weekends ago. I loaded it up so that it weighed in at around 25 pounds, then added about 3 gallons of water. The center compartment was able to handle a 2.5 gallon jug of water as well as a down jacket. 4,000 feet of gain, 6 miles round trip, and 45 pounds of weight and it handled it with ease - Felt like I could have added another 20+ pounds with no issues at all.  I plan to do Si this weekend with 50# in it to see how it goes.

The only add-ons I did to this pack was the addition of a very simple homemade rifle sling I built out of webbing and bungee cord.  (you can buy a very nice scabbard for Eberlestock packs, but they are very heavy in my opinion.)

I have a feeling this pack and I are going to have a long happy relationship!

As far as the addition of gear, for kicks I have started carrying a little pack of mountaineering gear (ropes, pullies, caribineers).  I figure it might be useful someday.  only a couple pounds.  probalby ditch it if I am trying to lighten the load.

So...already added some new stuff, and did some change-outs for some gear I liked better.

Kept my Bikini Frame (obviously), but I'm upgrading my bag to the new EMR2.  Can't wait.

Got into a complete failure situation with my KEEN boots during the high hunt...upgraded to Lowa Cevedales...26 miles on them so far, and they are just starting to break in...I like them a lot!

Got rid of my tripod head and upgraded to a Manfrotto 700RC2.  Still waiting on a chance to test it out...all signs point to better though.

Finally jumped on the Gaitor bandwagon...picked up a pair of KUIU's.

Dumping my camera, and just going with my IPHONE now...takes better pictures anyways.

Going to add a digiscope adapter for said IPhone.

Getting some First Lite socks, and picking up a Merino base layer.

Added a pair of gloves...limited use for me though...

Really want a new watch...looking at the Suunto Core.

That's about it though!  I'm pretty set.  Now Scott (FTF) and I are paying for out of state hunts...

   1.  will glove up with latex, 2. updated gps with wash. map,  3.  a bottle of spark mix.   I started using the spark toward the end of the season and for older guys like me  it really kept me from crashing after a tough day.  I bought a box of lates gloves and they help for when it rains, gutting animals, etc. and when you are done toss them.  coyotes must gobble them up cuz they are gone the next day.  good luck next year.    mike w

I am getting a newer light weight sleeping bag, making my own dehydrated meals, and adding a GPS with washington maps. I am also getting a synthetic stock for my rifle.

What are you doing for power for your phone? This has been my thought too but I've got to get a backup power/recharger for the phone.

I am going to add a length of fishing line, a clear bobber and a couple of flies.  Way too many times I am in the back country and find a lake or small creek that I just know could provide a better dinner then Mountain House.
