Marten or weasel?
« on: February 21, 2014, 03:19:03 PM »
I'm banking on marten but the only I've ever seen was years ago and I remember it having a lot more girth. This one is 26" from tip to tip.

 :yeah:

A weasel is not only about half that length but they are white this time of year.

Nice job on the Marten.  It should look a lot better when it's dried

not all weasels are white right now, i beleive it has something to do with elevation, i have seen a few weasels lately that are still dark, but i saw a couple up in the hills that were white

I might be having the same problem at one set.  What altitude did you catch this one at?

Wow I have always been told you have to be above 3000' to find marten.

That's what I've always been led to believe but I've been cutting tracks at and below 1000' all over the place. After this catch I've converted a few of my muskrat traps for marten and now have four out and tomorrow will set number five.
