Probably lake fishing.  Sockeye possibly.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I'm just vuessing that he is fishing kokanee with the clamp on style downriggers. I think they have a 6# limit. I have one 6# downrigger ball that we use to use on our old clamp ons but now we keep it as a spare since we use 8#ers on our rail mounted downriggers.

Personally, I couldn't imagine going through enough balls to justify pouring my own if just for myself and Kokanee fishing, unless I was just looking for something to do. And yes, back in the day, I did pour my own. A guy in Lake Stevens used to advertise on Craigslist. Had great prices, and had either 5# or 6# in his inventory.
Albacore, the better white meat.

Are you handy,do you have access to a welder? 3 inch schedule 40 pipe caps will get you about a 5 pounder(I did 4 inch and got 7),weld a hinge on one side and hack a hole in each half with a grinder to pour into, a handle tacked on each half and your in it to win it.We uesed a c clamp to keep it sealed tight.

The guy in Lake Stevens was still advertizing up until about a week ago. The smallest I saw advertized was an 8#er. I was going to get another ì and a 10 from him and now the ad is gone.  :bash: With any luck he is on vacation or taking a break and will be back to selling them again soon.

The ad is back up.  search "downrigger lake stevens" and it should be the only one that pops up. 8# is the lightest listed and they are onlu $11
