I am right with you on whats fair or lucky with points my boy and I had 15 points in several things but no luck. The guy we hunt with has 23 desert points and never drawn and lives there.  Maybe time for two draws one for guys with 10 points and over and one for less than ten somehow putting in for years should have some advantage but don't know how to do that.

completly agree with you, quality tags should only be offered to guys w no less than 5 points.  Especially those permits with less than 10 permits.
“In common with”..... not so much!!

Congrats on the draw, I am not to sure I would call the desert a quality tag anymore, but on the good side that unit isnt weather dependant and the bucks can be patterned to a point.
Amaizing how antlers can change a person!!

Congrats on the draw

I believe washingtons points system is the best of every state you have a chance to draw on any given year. It could be worse were the people with the most points draw so the new group of hunters will never attain enough points to ever draw.

A lot of people are of the opinion this is not a quality hunt and it may not be what it used to be. But we have a friend who takes us that has a picture album of the bucks he has that people have taken and if you saw them you might change your opinion on that. There were bucks over 30 inches and bucks scoring up to 230 maybe taken in the later season but still there. For us who live on the wet side where a 20 inch buck is a monster a nice 26 wide 4 point is quality enough for us.

A trophy is different for every person. For me, a trophy is about the memories, the hard work, dedication and the ability to say I gave that buck the most I could within the rules we both had to play by. Congrats to the OP for all the luck on drawing and getting to hunt a unit that many of us want to hunt.
Wishing I was fishing...or in Wyoming

:yeah: but when you can buy a OTC tag in ID or MT and shoot the same quality bucks as people pull out of there I dont see it as a quality hunt. And the hype it recieves along with all the apps I would expect way better. I am not saying there isnt big ones taken, but when you limit mule deer harvest and seasons you will always get some big ones here and there and thats in any unit!

I saw two bucks yesterday morning not far from my place, they look like they will be Desert dandies!! Its for sure a good tag to draw.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!
