Frustrated
« on: August 09, 2014, 10:39:26 AM »
I've spent the last day and a half up near concrete on the south end and I haven't seen squat  :bash:  the one berry patch I found I could see around 15 yards into all around.   I haven't seen any fresh signs of bears either.   Thinking I'm doing something wrong lol :dunno:  suggestions

Stick with it. It takes more than a day and a half. Sounds like a new area to you? Find a high spot where you can watch from. Get comfortable and glass glass glass.

It's called hunting for a reason. Unless someone has incredibly good luck, it takes time and patience. You are doing the right "homework". If you keep at it, it will eventually pay off.
I've been a hunter for decades, fairly new to bear hunting. I've yet to bag my first one. But, it will happen.
If man was not supposed to eat animals, God wouldn't have made them out of meat.

Been out three times to areas I know hold bears. Ain't seen diddly! Give it time. Maybe next time you will simply walk out and blast one. Sometimes it works like that.

Very new area to me.   I just don't know if I'm in the right area is all.  The kid is having a great time so I'm ok with it.   Bagging a bear would top if off though.   Washington is a whole different league than the Midwest that I'm used to lol.

:yeah:
If there is one resource WA has plenty of, it's bear. You have plenty of spots within 30 minutes of your location.  That'll make scouting and hunting easier on you.

Regardless, if you don't see scat then just move on to the next patch.

That's pretty much what I've been doing.   Driving some roads and hiking less traveled ones

Well, there's part of the problem at least. Get off the roads a little and you might have better luck.

In my favorite bear area we see very little actual bear sign during the berry season.  But after we shoot an animal and work our way down into the berry bowl the amount of scat and tracks is overwhelming!  When the feed is so heavy and in such close proximity to their bedding area there is really no need for them to walk a road or path used by humans.  It's a very unique situation that could lead to some serious doubt if we didn't first know the area is full of bear and quality feed.

A lot of bear in that area!  Keep at it and you should be rewarded.  Good luck

Great thanks for the advice.   Like I  said earlier it's a new area.  I ran into one Hunter that  said he jumped a bear this morning feeding in the road.  Grazing on grass on the upper road way the heck up on top.    :dunno:  staying positive though,  bound to happen one of these days.

That's quite a drive each day? Are you camping out in the back country? Lots of bears near your residence....

Yes we are camping and it's a drive lol.   Most places around me are private timber companies charging for access now.
