Years ago the LEO in the Joesph area said the natives were taking turkeys before season with 22's.

I would beg to differ, A .22lr will kill a lot of things it is not legal to do so

   Not sure how you come about that knowledge but here's how I'll refute it.

I shot one of my big 35 lb tom turkeys that went on a chick killing spree.  I hit it through the chest with a .22 lr and it went about 20' and died.  He was twice as big as a wild jake.

I used to shoot a lot of my Dad’s free ranging turkeys with .22 shorts.  It is a very effective method.

Over 50 years ago we lived in a southern state that had no regs on what to use for turkey's.  My dad shot many with a 22 but we usually had to chase it down or circle and get some more lead in it.  Occasionally one would die quick but not usually.  We switched to a 30-30 because we had no shotgun.

I have seen a few states that allow the use of rifle of muzzleloaders on turkeys. I don't think WA will ever be one of them.
