I just love it how you guys complain about a $100 camera to stealing and vandalizing a $15000 SxS or a $55000 truck. You guys really show your colors. There's a huge, huge difference.

There are a lot of true colors being shown on here. If it is not yours, leave it alone. Don't open it, vandalize it, or steal it.  Someday someone will get caught in the act and something bad could happen.  Stealing or tampering with someone's property is wrong on every level.  Everyone know the property is not abandoned whether a tent, camera, or side by side. Treat others and their property how you would want you and yours treated.

when you leave property out there, you run the risk of something happening to it but I don't get some of the attitudes on here.

To the OP.  If you enjoy solitude, I wouldn't suggest a photo of a legal buck with background photos on theInternet.

My feelings as well. I know that I risk losing my cameras every time I put them out but in no way shape or form does it make it ok for someone to steal them or make me "at fault" for leaving something out on public land. I have agreed with the majority of your posts Campmeat but this one I 100% disagree with. How ANYONE can even remotely justify theft is beyond comprehension.

Show me where I JUSTIFIED theft. I said, it's going to happen, so expect it. Then jerks say they'll vandalize my SxS or truck to make an assnine point.

I do not support thievery, or vandalism, but I don't think  you should be surprised if this happens to your setup.  Especially if you do leave it for weeks on end.  I do not compare this to your vehicle, wheeler, or camp.

I know exactly what you are getting at Bone but why don't you compare it to something like a camp? A thief is a thief and my personal property is my personal property no matter what the value.

I treat someones camp as personal space and wouldn't violate that.   If a camp was abandoned for 4 weeks (illegal), then maybe I would walk through.      Difference between borrowing the land versus squatting on it maybe?    Not justifying any thievery, just stating I think you could expect it, especially if its defined as illegal.   You park your vehicle alongside the road (Yakima River) for 4 weeks, you can expect to have your vehicle stolen.   Do it for 3 hours, I would think that was horrible.   Does that make sense?

I didn't say it was your fault. I said to expect it, there's a difference. So, I disagree 100% with you. And, public land would be a start not to expect it won't get stolen. If I left my truck in the woods for a month, I'd expect it would get stolen, vandalized, whatever people do. So, I couldn't really bitch about my problem of leaving it there, I'd expect it when I went to get it.

I understand the logic for sure and can see how in a wilderness area being that it is already illegal but just feels like it is taking away from the severity of the actual "crime" when we say anything how it could be expected. If I walk down the street alone at night and get jumped is it ok because it could have been expected? Again, its an extreme example but I don't view this type of debate in terms of severity. Any theft is complete garbage in my book and I would want to pummel a person stealing my camera just as much as someone stealing my vehicle.

My truck was parked along the Yakima River for 8 hours and it got stolen.
You need to pick a better location to use in your example, Doug.

I've had at less 6  cameras stolen. The only one that really bothered me was one taking from my house.
The ones I had out in use I just shook my head and replaced it in a better spot.

I share your opinion 300, that's why I said I don't need to get over anything.   When I am pounding the concrete I expect to be on vid surveillance for security purpose.    When I am in the Wilderness I don't expect to be photo'd necessarily.   I head for the woods for solitude, alone time, whatever you want to call it.  I head for the wilderness when I really want that.   I cant even use a chainsaw or pedal a bike in the wilderness.   Do you think there might be a reason for those rules? 

That being said, no I am not for banning trailcams.  They are a hobby that folks enjoy.   There might be a time when this attitude of its mine and leave alone will get to be too much when you find them scattered all over the place.   I try to recognize them and leave them alone, but that public land is also there for me to enjoy, not to tiptoe around folks setups.  I had an occasion where I drew a special elk permit and USO oufitters put a trailcam on every waterhole in a unit.  I saw the truck as I was standing by a waterhole when he pulled up.  There were over a 100 trailcams filling the back of his truck.   I thought that was over the top but as far as I know perfectly legal.  Does that mean he owned the rights to every water hole?

I appreciate the photos that I have seen from these cameras.  SOme are outstanding, some are of outstanding critters.  I have even thought about asking for one for my birthday so I can put it on a couple crossings I know have giant bucks around them every fall.

I wasn't saying I would actually vandalize your rig.  Just an example.  I wasn't trying to flame you for your opinion either.  Just state mine.

So its ok to steal something off your truck that is a couple hundred dollars just not the whole truck.. Got it I will remember that next time I am in the woods and see how people think about that. 

If it is not yours then leave it alone.
