270 Weatherby shooters?
« on: September 27, 2014, 08:41:53 PM »
I just picked up a real nice model 70 in 270 weatherby. I'll be loading 140 grain accubonds for it and wondering what best powder was to put behind them. I'm leaning towards h-4831. I'm not looking for loads just what powders have worked best for guys.

Thanks caleb

I took my first elk with a Palazzo custom 270wby.  That cartridge is a real sleeper.  I used a near max load of h1000 under a 140 accubond.

I'd think 4831, N-560, RL22 would be the fastest I would go.  H1000, IMR7828, N170, RL25 are what most guys I know use.  The 270Wby shooter I know best runs N560 (same burn rate as 4831) with the 140 Accubond for deer and bear.  He runs Magnum (same burn rate as H1000) with the 150 Partition for elk.

My dad had a couple different customs chambered in 270 WbyMag that was his go to everything gun for 30yrs.  He mostly shot 130 Noslers, either Balistic tips or Partions, and I believe he mostly used RL22.  I know they both shot in extremely well and neither was finicky at all.  I'd be glad to get his exact load if you'd like.  Also, if you need any brass, let me know because he has a 100cnt bag of Norma 270 Wby Mag he wants me to sell for him.

Thanks guys I loaded four rounds with 71.0 grains of H-4831 I had 3 touching with the first round being a fouling shot after I cleaned it which was about 3 inches away from the the others. Now I just have to wait a couple of weeks to try her out

I love it when you nail a load on the first try   I always feel like I won the lotto!

Did Remington chamber that with the Weatherby type freebore or is it more standard?  How far off the lands did you load it?

It's a winchester and yeah they did chamber them with the free bore. And yeah it was nice I will admit I tried a little H4350 with it yesterday just because I have a lot of it and it burns to fast for the weatherby. Thanks for the input guys

Remington/Winchester...These days I'm happy I remembered it was a .270 Wby :chuckle:

Thank you.  I've always been curious how others were cutting for the Wby cartridges.
