Myself, Willy, Andrew and Aaron received confirmation we had drawn the archery elk tags we had applied for in the Bighorn Mountains. With a lot of research and some excellent help from several members here we landed in the right spot. Andrew had been on several hunts recently with us without a tag and working as a “caller “I was hoping he would be successful harvesting a bull, he was well deserving of it. No need to worry as on the second set-up he double lunged a 5X5 the first evening! Money….now the pressure was off. I told Willy if he could call in a bull for me to 15 yards I would not miss….so he calls one into 10 feet and I don’t have a shot…LOL! We continue on and later that morning he is able to pull a herd bull away from the herd (the hardest thing to do) into 13 yards, I didn’t miss. Nice 6X6 about 325”. My second biggest to date. That was on day 4 with 5 more to go. Willy and Aaron had the typical frustrating close calls archery hunting brings and then on the last morning we were able to tag team and pull a 3X4 off the edge of the herd which Aaron cleanly harvested. If you have never been to the Bighorns you should go. It is a beautiful place and a great place to hunt elk.
