Blacktail Success - Archery during Modern
« on: October 29, 2014, 10:53:54 AM »
I was fortunate enough to shoot a great Blacktail on Sunday.  This was an archery kill during rifle season, in our woods at home, and I had all 5 of my girls in on the action.

I wasn’t really hunting, rather I was taking a walk in the woods between home projects, but with my bow in hand.  I had noticed fresh rubs in the last week or so, and the girls had told me of a great buck they had seen a few days prior.  It’s that time of year.  We’d had some pretty stormy weather, so I wanted to take a look for any trees damaged by the wind.  I took my bow on that walk, and to my great fortune I happened to see a buck stand from his bed.  After several minutes and some careful maneuvering a shot opportunity opened up.  It was a quick, clean kill, and I had all 5 girls with me on the recovery.  They were great helpers, from the start of the blood trail right through till the last bit was boned out.  What a great afternoon for our family.  Hope you enjoy the pics.
