That's what I'm afraid of here. At work right now, but it was 33 below yesterday and it's been teetering back in forth between extreme cold and melting temps. I think footholds for me might be out for awhile and snares will be the only option.
Not for self, but for country

Out chasing moose today on an emergency opener up north ;)

If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Great day up in the woods. We saw 4 moose, one legal bull, but he was on the wrong side of the river. We still had a caribou tag to fill and ended up busting a old sausage bull right at dark. Ancient and huge. We were able to get him out whole which was nice. A 6x6 can do amazing things. Before I skin him out I'm going to swing into fish and game and have them take a look at him in the morning. Nothing but skin and bones. Honestly wouldn't of shot him if I has a better look at him. One of his eyes was all filled with a cold as well  :puke: Figured Id have them say yes or no. May end up with bunch of trapping bait. All part of hunting, I know some guys may have left him there but we started it so well finish it ;) Oh and still super cold, high of -5 low of -21. Makes for a long day outside.

Forgot to mention full on blizzard most of the day! And crazy good looking trapping area  :'( I was drooling all day wishing it wS about 5 hrs closer. Pic of an old lynx cubby I found. We hunted along a trappers trail for about 15 miles at one point. Kind of cool seeing his marten sets and the old poles that were there from the old timer that probable cut the trail 40 yrs ago. Nothing like a hot Mountain House at -20 below with a wooden spoon made from a willow.

Few more cool pics from today. The first is of the Gulkana River. Frozen spot we found to cross. Looks like a black and white world. Next is One Mile Creek. Spot we seen the moose today but were not able to get across final crossing. You can see break in the ice from snow machines crossing just before us. Below the break it's about 3' to the bottom. Last pic is of the crack right at day light. Just needed another 1/4 mi to open hunting on that drainage.

Last pic of the night... Little scope kiss (what a bleeder) and some wind burn/light frost bite. Nice to be home and take a hot shower!

Little disappointed with my marten line today so I decided to go check some other sets I have down lower and BAM! Nothing makes me happier than a double and even better when there cross fox. Like pulling double aces.
