Both are nice cameras, my brother in law just picked up the 70D for his son and I got to play with it a bit, pretty nice. I'll be going to the 7D MKII next i think, another you might consider. :twocents:

Yeah I really want a full frame but the prices out of my range. Will the glass that fits the Nikon also fit a full frame if I decide to move up in the future?
I may be wrong but I don't believe the cannons will :dunno:

Full frame Canons require L series lenses, there may be a couple exceptions.

You should be able to find a 5D MKII for about the same price as the 70D though. :twocents:

Yes, the Nikon lens will fit all their cameras from the D7000 on up.  I have a bunch of old manual prime lenses I bought in the 80's, use them on my D7000 at times.  The

An easy way to check if the lenses work with a certain camera is go to the Nikon website and they have a tool/list of what works with what.  Some of their older flashes work with certain cameras and some of their older AF lenses only work with certain cameras.

Thanks for the help guys. My last SLR was a Pentax ME super, things have sure come a long ways since those days. I've been using an Olympus super zoom,  it's been a great camera, but it's time to move on to bigger and better

When you say "D70"I assume you mean the Canon 70D and not Nikon's 10 year old D70. Canon's new 70D boasts continuous auto focus for video shooting. IDK whether the Nikon D7000 features this or not. This would be a huge distinction for me if you plan to shoot a lot of video. If you don't have this you'll have to manually focus as subjects move around in your video. Otherwise I would try both out in the store and see which one feels more intuitive in your hands. Some people call them Canikon because they're pretty much the same. Anything one brand does that works out well is quickly copied by the other manufacturer.

If you can afford the 70D you can afford full frame. Adorama just had the Canon 6D with a printer on sale for like $1,700 or something with a $500 rebate. You could chuck the printer for $200 and be into your new camera for about $1,000. IDK whether its still on sale but keep in mind this would leave you without a lens. I would try to make sure you're buying from an authorized retailer. Nikon's D600 might cost you a little more but will give you more cross type auto focus points as well as two card slots instead of 1 in the Canon.

If you like shooting in low light and don't always want to use flash you'll love full frame. I have to be above ISO 16,000 before I can't get rid  of the ugly noise in post. Full frame also enables the razor thin depth of field and creamy background bokehliciousness

Canon's EF-S lenses will only work on crop sensor cameras such as the D70, t5i, SL1, etc. If you put it on a full frame it will eff up the reflex mirror the first time you go to slam the trigger. EF lenses will work on crop and FF.  Nikon calls full frame lenses FX and the crop sensor lenses are DX. I believe you can only use DX lenses on DX cameras analogous to Canon but can usefx lenses on a crop if you want. Just like you can use Canon's L lenses on crop sensor canon cameras. Nikon has traditionally made better wide angle lenses but Canon's recent EF 16-35 f/4.0L IS as well as 24-70 f/2.8 II have been real home runs for Canon.

Reasons you should chose crop would include shooting kids sports or certin wildlife suc h as birds in fight. Myriad cross point auto focus and a high burst rate would be more important than full frame.  7dII etc
