Idaho Outfitted Drop Camps - Backcountry Access
« on: December 07, 2014, 01:33:39 PM »
I have been looking at a few of the fly in hunt options for Idaho.  My buddy had mentioned about the 18 different drop camp air strips he was looking at.  I was curious if anyone else had done this.  If you have any info you may be willing to share via PM.  We are looking at setting this up for 2015 or 2016.

Start getting in shape now.

Ive flown out of Mcall before. But you don't have to fly in to access good country. Ive had just as much luck driving in as far as I can and hunting from there. Lots of homework and yes, good lungs and legs help.

The snag I ran into flying in was getting dropped off and getting picked up. Had to wait two days once to get flown in and two days for the plane to return. You have to schedule those delays into your trip, its the back country and the weather/ fire smoke etc does not always cooperate.

Everyone I know that has done these fly in hunts talks of the success they had, but aren't willing to share any info for the most part.  Hmm.  Is it that good, you don't talk about it?

I guess I will have to research this fairly heavily and do the drive over in the spring and see what I can come up with.

Here's what I will say, it was a good hunt with decent bucks in the past but the last 3-4 years have me very disappointed. It has become overcrowded with lots of new guys coming in and shooting pretty much anything that is legal. I saw bucks shot this year that I would really have to think about killing them if they were blacktails. There are still decent bucks around but unless you spike out far from camp you aren't alone.
Its really to bad, it's starting to remind me of hunting modern Washington.

It can't be like what I experienced this year in Washington.  I saw over 30 hunters in less than a 1/2 mile.  Probably last time I do rifle in this state.
Sticking to muzzy and archery.

H2o try getting ahold of benchleg as I know one of his friends flew this year. He may have himself also. He could put you in contact with him.
Don't forget your spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch.
