Any good public land near Spokane?
« on: December 09, 2014, 02:48:56 PM »
I am new to Hunting and looking for some places to find some Coyotes near Spokane.  I have some private land, but mostly smaller stuff.  Is there any good public land that isnt overhunted?   I looked on the wa.gov site and they have a map but from what I can see there isnt very much public land.  But the map is a bit hard to understand and doesnt really tell me if its good coyote area.

River front park. Don't think they get alot of pressure there. All kidding aside all the public land should hold yotes and all the public land has probably been hunted hard just like it is everywhere. But you won't know until you get out and try.

Private property is going to be your best bet if your just getting started imo all of the public land around Spokane gets hit heavy. Not that you can't get coyote in those places cause they are there. But they have heard just about every fox pro sound out there. I like hand calls for public land my self.if your willing to drive 1-2 hours from Spokane then there is alot more public land

Swanson Lakes area.   Lot's of folks probably hunt it, but I've always seen coyotes out there.   Check with some farms out towards Reardan.

is there a good map that shows public land?   I dont know where any public land is.
The BLM office on Fancher Rd, just a bit north of Broadway, has most of the public land maps available pretty cheap.
Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.

Swanson Lakes has some public ground, but leave your calls at home and hope for an ambush set up.  Make sure you get permission and know where you in Lincoln county, they have a well deserved reputation for prosecuting trespassers.

yup Swanson lakes gets hammered hard!  I've called several in there but be prepared to walk....and walk. They stay away from the roads and almost every coyote I've gotten their came is very cautious.  Spot and stalk have worked well for me there as well
