Small Mouth Bass all the way...especially river caught, a float trip down the John Day River is pretty close to heaven.

I haven't caught oversize sturgeon yet, so I have to agree with Coon..........smallmouth are a blast to catch, especially in a river.

I also like fishing Omak Lake for them big ol lahotans(sp?) BArbless hook spoons spendin the day out there basically by yourself form dark till dark........we can usually catch 30-40 a day not keeping that many of course but sure is fun on the barbless set up......Biggest so far is a 10 pounder most range around 5-6.....the only downside is that you have to buy a squaw permit! or should I say tribal fishing liscense hahah

What kind of fish is that???  Curious, or is it another nickname found only in WA?

First time listening to folks last year on other sites about which they are catching and where, took me awhile to figure they were talking about the same fish I have fished for previous but with the WA nickname thrown in...

Nope Rasbo, haven't tried the Little Wood yet, but my father-in-law fished it last year and we're planning a trip there soon. Next year, I hope to get some time on the Little Wood, Rock Creek, and the Logan in Utah (while visiting family). Of course, my first priority is a few days where that photo was taken. Might hit some other spots in between if I can swing it and still stay married.

Thats a nice smallie, never really got into them to much, had some great days on the snake/ronde when i was in college when I was bored, but bass are the size of bait!!! lol

smallies are fun we have pulled some monsters out of lake samamish but they dont compare to steelhead or remotely close to sturgeon

ya any fish is "fun" but My idea of a fish differs from most, I have been lucky to fight as many huge sturgeon as I have.. we used to have 75-100 smallie days in the summer over east... they kill anything you tossed it after them, on light gear it was "fun" just not the same as a 20lb native steelie or a huge sturgeon.. or even a keeper.. I bet a small smallie would be a killer sturg bait....

it all depends on the tackle and the presentations used on how the fight is going to be with any game fish.
i do like all kinds of fishing but bass fishing is the one you are constantly casting and searching the cover and trying to figure out their patterns to be consistant day in and day out. that is what makes it challenging and fun..
now steelheading to me is the same deal, you are in search and destroy mode too.

not just pole in holder and wait. (which i don't mind that either as long as it produces)

Sockeye in Alaska on a small river. We normally go every year. i have tons of fun. Those fish are a kick in the pants to catch and there are so many of them my hands get tired after a day of fishing!
