I tried lathrop and sons in my Meindls another brand from Cabelas, also doubled up insoles and nothing worked tons of highend socks and liners my feet were on fire with a loaded pack  to the point of not even being able to walk! the first pair leaked after 11 months the second pair in 12 months and a huge hole in the leather above the heel! the rubber was falling off the boots! I regulary used obenhaufs on them and never heated them to dry. Highly disappointed in them. I ended up wearing Salomon speed cross shoes all fall for elk  this year and my feet couldnt of been better or more comfy in them even tho they only lasted 18 days in the blues  :chuckle: I just bought these for this year and they feel like a shoe with a mt boot support we will see how they work this weekend.

What model meindls did you have?  I have ran one pair of the perfekts for 5 years and still wade creeks with them and don't leak one bit same with a couple year old candada.  I did have one of their new light something that were junk and got taken back.  Have a pair of kenetreks and had a buckle break and they sent a new pair but now the rubber is cracking on the new pair.  Have not been to impressed for the full retail price but their customer service is excellent.

My German forester had a pair of meindl's that he wore near every day so I asked him how long he had them (insert strong german accent) "ohh yoshua, I don't know, mabye 12 or 15 years"

So i went to the Frankonia(german hunting stor) later that week and started trying them one.  They hunt a lot over here, and 12+ years on the same boots with a hunting season 364 days a year is a lot of wear and tear.   Mind you the cabelas one's are budget built a little different. after the exchange rate with taking off german taxes mine ended up being $312 I think I remember. German tax in Saarrland is 17%.

I've had mine for 2 years now and they are worn probably 100 hunting days a year pretty much every hunt over 25 degrees. they were stiff at first but they are very comfortable now.  only thing i consider changing is maybe putting the insole from that podietry guy that does the custom hanwags(another boot i'd take) in the states.

One piece of advice that I'll give is don't buy a pair of boots that has stitching below the ankle. It always seams to be the first to give.

I wont own another pair of meindl. They were complete crap for me as well. After being replaced 2 times in 2 years tue third pair is held together with freesole now but they havent started leaking yet. I wore them a couple weeks ago and got bad blistes after 8 miles. Not sure why they havent given me blisters before. Seems like the width stretched. I am going to try some zamberlans or kenetreks next. Hope they work with my narrow and super high arch feet.

Bull did you put in the extra thin little sole insert that they provide? I can't remember what it's called but meindl's have tha cork sole and will form fit to your foot, once you get it where you want it that insert stops the process ... Maybe you just kept stretching them and blew out the waterproof membrane and seams??? :dunno:
i could not use the insoles that came with them. Felt like walking barefoot on concrete. I have tried lots of them and currently have green superfeet in them.

These are what I have been wearing for 4 years, These are the best boots, I swear to god, I use them on 9 day pack in elk hunts and late cold weather archery mule deer hunts, the best I've ever worn, I also have Kenatrek but I love my zamberlin's

Coop- if I remember correctly you and I both have the same pair of $65 perfekt hunters purchased at the same time. I've had the same awesome results with mine.

Boots are such a funny thing.  You can talk with 10 different hunters and they will give you 10 different answers.

My cousin and I both had Meindls before and generally liked them.  Broke in easy and fit great, not too stiff but still good support.  Mine started to leak badly so I put them on the shelf.  I then bought Zamberlans, and my cousin bought the Lowa Sheep Hunters.  The Zamberlans are great boots, but took quite a while to break them in.  They now fit like a glove.  One thing I don't like about the Zamberlans is they are shorter than a normal hunting boot, which means I either need to wear gaiters 24/7 or deal with grass and burrs in my socks.  Last week I was in Arizona (and not expecting rain) and took the leaky Meindls because I didn't want to punch cactus holes in my Zamberlans.  Of course, it snowed and I got soaked!  But I was reminded how comfortable those boots are.  My cousin is tired of his Lowas, they are too stiff and loud for him.  He also tried his old Meindls again last week, and loved the way they fit and hunted.  He is going back to Meindls.

I'm coming due for a new pair of boots and think I will probably go with the Meindls again too. Just can't see myself wanting to fight through 50 miles of blisters and sore foot to get a new pair of kenetreks or the like broke in.
