Congratulations on some nice critters! Looks like the lr acubonds. Laid them down for you, but like you said, bullet performance could have been better..but it looks like it worked!

A guy I use to work with here in North Eastern Montana swears by them and has taken Antelope, Mule deer and Elk but I personally have not used them.

The thing I did like is it left enough of the base/jacket of the bullet to continue on through the bear, which has not been the case for me on bergers.

It seems nobody has perfected a bullet that's best for all distances. sirmissalot provided some great comments and info, thanks. I have been looking for a long range bullet that will hold together better than the bergers. I'm wondering if other hunters have noticed the same?

I think a lot of people understand this.  3000fps+ is a whole different dynamic than 1800fps-.

One of my better friends has gotten into long range deer hunting with some really good success.  He carries a dope book with medium and long range loads.  His thought is that beyond 500 yards he is not going to take a quick shot.  So he has plenty of time to change the round in his gun.  He was shooting Accubonds out to 450 and SST or AMax beyond that depending on what animal he was hunting.  He also wanted to test the ABLR but could never find a large enough supply to work up a complete profile so hasn't yet done it.  I know he liked the down range accuracy he was getting with the Berger, but he complained about inconsistent results on game.  Last years muledeer was 820 something yards with the SST (I'm not sure what weight) out of the 308 Norma.  He was quite happy with what he saw.

I believe his longest shot was a Montana whitetail just shy of 1,000 with the A-Max.  "Like I injected a grenade in that deer", he said!  I'm not sure what the velocity at that range would be, but it would have to be under 1,700, I would think.

exactly Rad! I have been hunting with my 338 Edge long before most here had even heard of the round..bullets react differently at any given range, velocity, impact medium. Twist rate, and many more subtle factors. Back when most of my hunting was with single shot handguns, (mid 70's) we knew that the light varmint bullets, pushed at slower velocities from our 7mm tcu's,  Herrets,  and BR rounds, performed amazingly well on larger game. Velocity makes a huge difference on how a bullet reacts at impact, as Sirmissalots experience shows. Appreciate him sharing some real world, first hand views.

:yeah: I started doing that with coyotes, I had three loads for my 257 roy, what I used depended on distance.
100 gr loaded 3000 fps
100 gr loaded 3300 fps
75 hpbt loaded 4000 fps

I still load more than 1 bullet for most of my guns, but always looking for that "more perfect" bullet!  :chuckle:

"Magic man", aka Coach found me some 190's and I will be running a few test loads tomorrow morning.  Interested to see how they run.  If I keep them to around 2825fps they "should" work with the same adjustments as my 180's. Out to distances I will shoot anyway. They start pulling away out past 750.

First test loads were an epic fail.  2.5" groups @100 yards.  Back to the drawing board.

I don't think these are hot bonded.  Aren't they chemical bonded :dunno:

That is a question, I don't know for sure.  Friend of mine from highschool just started working there I'll send a text and see if he has the right answer unless someone in the know here lets me know first!
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

. Starting with a low charge and working up.  Once I narrow down a charge range then I mess with seating depth.  I think that is my issue with these, I have them too deep in order to fit my factory box mag.  I will end up having to single feed or go to a Wyatt's box mag.  Wyatt's will give me the space I need but requires some fitting, which I am too scared to do. Lol

hmm. Was the 2.5 inches with the seating depth as long as mag allows? How far does that put you from the lands? What twist is your barrel?
