License costs
« on: February 24, 2015, 09:12:03 AM »
I was just randomly looking at a whitetail archery hunt on CL in Oregon. Then I wandered over to OR's license page. They're quite a bit cheaper for hunting tags and licenses compared to us.

How does WA compare with other states in terms of cost and why? Do we manage game better? If there's a legit reason I would be less frustrated with the cost.

One of the things that i think is good about OR is how they handle thier rifle Mule deer hunt. Draw only but its open season cross the counter for archery. People kill good bucks on the rifle draws, and they have lots of tags for residents. Im not sure how it would pan out with the way mgt works and how tribes afect harvest here vs OR
In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

Not sure what license fees you're looking at, but to hunt deer and elk in Oregon, it would be $96.50 (resident price).  Here in Washington, deer and elk costs $84.50.

I don't know where you got your information, but it is incorrect for common scenarios.

An Oregon resident pays $29.50 for a hunting license, $24.50 for a deer tag, and $42.40 for an elk tag. That's a total of $96.50.

A Washington resident pays $84.50 for the same package.

He specifically referenced hunting licenses. Oregon also has additional fees if you want to include them in the analysis.

:chuckle:  So any fee you pay is the state "screwing" you? People in Oregon probably talk about how much better off Washington residents are, with no state income tax.
