Yote call recommendations

I've been calling yotes for along time here in western WA. Mostly up and down the coast, from Clearwater to Bear river. My favorite call is a Cotton tail in distress, its what worked the best for me most of the time. The last couple of years I've been hunting up Capital Forest more, it's close to home and there seems to be plenty of yote sign. I've called in a few but not nearly as many as I'd hope to, with all the sighn around I know the yotes are there.My setup has pretty much been the same for over 20 years. I sit in a clear cut that boarders reprod, usually with a good sized, brushy creek close by. The yotes seem to like skidder trails or any other trails that run through the cutt. I sit and call 15 to 20 min. per. set up I guess I need to try some different calls and maybe a whole new tactic. I know hunting this close to town, these yotes have seen hunters and heard calls.

 :)If you are asking about alternative sounds, my favorite is puppy whimpers, easy to do with most any open reed call.

sorry excited to get out there. try bird sound's. get way farther from Road. a long Howl this time of year. use different call's ior sound's and watch the wind scent line. you will see the coyote's head for it they all dont rush in. watch fence line's tree line's you will see one sitting there watching. Rick

One strategy is to begin your set with a couple "greeting" howls, long, and tapering off.  Be quiet for 5 minutes and then begin your distress calls. Don't be afraid to try a variety of calls, and give them time to "come in".  I would think 30 minute might be a more reasonable time on a stand, but that is based on being out here in "open" eastern WA.  Perhaps shorter is OK over there.

cottontail and a jack is all I use..try to get away from the roads seems everybody with a call has to scream from the truck.When I get to a spot I set awhile before I call.I dont call long for dogs if they are near they will get there pretty quick.Bobs I sit longer.usally till my ass gets tired,45 min.Dont slam doors and and make a bunch of noise.I like to ride my mountain bike in,and call several sites.I have a rope about 2ft long I carry each end has a hook.I tube the animal when I get the tail and legs done I put the rope around a tree,and hooks through the back legs and pull speeds thing up.have fun watch your backside

Are you hunting the timber, old cuts or new cuts?

Mostly hunting in cuts, Age varies but usually newer at least semi open. If that makes any sense.

I hunt up there a lot and it can be tough to find the yotes, that is for sure.

bobcat are better. coyote's come in certain area's better than other's. i call alot of coyote in during bear season and several bobcat's. one bobcat called him in three time's. long lanky tom. think food and you will locate coyote's. Rick
