« on: April 19, 2015, 06:18:06 PM »
Got a Tom coming in hot at noon. I will do whatever it takes to Chase a gobble at that hour, they always die. Anyway I had just told my buddy to shoot when all of a sudden a second toM came walking in. I said wait, one two three.. he missed I knocked mine down. His gone then jammed and I smoked the second d one as it tried to get away.

I don't suppose this was up on the Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Preserve Saturday morning.  I was up there with my daughter and brother-in-law when we heard a BANG-BANG and then a lot of hootin' and hollerin'.   :)

Nice brace of birds!
I am trying to connect with, and introduce my family to, the American hunting and fishing heritage to which I was never introduced.

No, not the pend oreille. More like chewelah. But man you probably heard me yelling. I was jacked up. I had some bad luck up to that point in the hunt. I had called in a bird right to my truck, no joke, used my tire as my blind. He was on a string from the time I stepped out, when I shot my gun didn't fire. He was standing ten feet off my bumper and I was up against my driver side rear tire. You can imagine the frustration because it was about to be an epic story. My buddy missed another one the next day I had called in off the roost out of private all the way to public. Bird strutted in our decoys for five minutes. Finally he shot, thought he hit it but he only smoked all our decoys. 13 steps away from him. Good grief. plenty more stories and one more great Turkey season.

CONGRATS. I've never cooked a bird whole. How was it?

The Jake's are better. But this particular one, which was a Tom, my wife kind of screwed up. Cooked to long and it dried out. But if you brine it for 24 hours, they are usually great. Legs aren't worth a damn
