Nice elk...

For those of you who live in the lower elevations...

When I first moved out here, it took a little getting used to because I live at over a mile high...

When I took my first hunt and was kicking it at the higher elevations, it took a little more getting used to, even got mild headaches until I dropped back to my house, waited a week and went back...

Then I was acclimatised and never seemed to have a problem again...

It was a late September hunt up high, miles from the trailhead. We camped, hiked and fished for several days before opening morning. Located a few elk. When the season opened we bugled and I took a shot at 180 yards, dropping this 6x6 bull with a 175 gr Nosler Partition from my 7mm Rem mag. Without the help and guidance of my Wyoming hunting buddy, I couldn't have pulled off this hunt. We spent about 10 days in the high country before and during the season. Got snowed on pretty good by the time we were out of there too.

Back in 2000, didn't have a digital camera along, and no scanner avail until Santa brought one for Christmas a few days ago. No chance to share 'em w/you guys until now. It was one heck of a cool hunt. Darned near convinced me that I needed to buy two horses - then I came to my senses!  ;)

Really nice.  What part of the Winds were you in?  I ask because I just spent all of last august out there near the Green River lakes, not hunting just backpacking.  Didn't see any elk but saw a few moose, and deer, as well as a herd of bighorns at 11,500'
