Chevy Gas Trucks
« on: May 05, 2015, 08:43:13 AM »
So what is the MPG on a newer chevy gas truck? So if i want to test an ecoboost ford and a chevy. Fuel milage and towing my 7000 pound boat once in a while. What one is better?

I was a for guy for many years, Have had two buddys with eco boost trucks and my advice would be anything other than eco boost...

I now own a tubdra and gas mileage is minimal but all the other stuff makes up for the fuel mileage loss

Ecoboost all day long.  I hear the new 6.2L Chevys are pretty fun though.

I own a 2012 Chevy 1/2 ton with the 5.3 flex and average right around 17 around town not towing. I have got just under 20 on road trips using cruise. I'll take the nice ride of the Chevy all day.

milage ratings for Chev and ford 1/2 tons is virtually identical, Dodge is rated best milage. These are "ratings" not real life.

I tow my 26ft trailer that is right at 5900 dry and around 7300ish loaded..  I don't have a problem at all with it besides mpg but that is expected with that kind of load on a gas truck.. If I was towing much more weight than that I would be looking at a different truck.  When not towing I get around 15-16 mostly highway but that can reduce big time depending how much I am into it..  I love my truck and best part is I have had it for 4 years and I could sell it for almost what I paid.. I have the crewmax which is awesome when hitting the hills with gear and guys with all the cab room..

:)My trailer weighs 5000, if I knew I was towing 7000 I'd go 3/4 ton.

My 5.7 gets 16 in town and 20+ on the freeway and even better if I get gas without alcohol in it. Its a 1994, Z71, 350 CID and a 5 speed manual. Only Dodge has manuals trannys, I'll miss my Chev's they have out lasted Fords and Dodges.  :twocents:

Haha so will chevy and ford guys.  Nothing new with this it happens in every one of these posts..  Everyone has their reasons to have their vehicle in which most people think that why theirs is the best.   What's best for one person is most likely not going to fit what the other person wants or needs.

Full size truck with a gas engine towing 7k pounds is going to equate to crappy, probably close to single digit gas mileage. At what point does it matter how bad?  Bad or more badder.
You'll be pushing the max tow rating or over it unless you get the right gear ratio with the 5.3 trucks I think.
