Mom said he used to come and hang out at their auto wrecking shop in Renton years ago and tell stories to my mom and her husband at the time.  I wish I was around back then to pick his brain I'm sure he had some neat stories to tell. It would also be cool to find out what kind of rifle he was using for this bear.

Nice photo! Looks like he shot him with a 1903 Springfield 30-06 from the rifle in the picture. Thanks for sharing.

"Upon his arrival Mr. Peterson took up the trail with the dogs, tracking him for two weeks, finding dead cattle and sheep in his wake. At last the spoor crossed the divide at Holman pass into Watcom county. At the headwaters of Ruby Creek in an almost inaccessible place the dogs succeeded in surrounding the grizzly. Mr. Peterson cautiously advanced but could see nothing on account of the thick underbrush. All at once the bear broke through the brush about thirty feet in front of Mr. Peterson. It was in an ugly temper and immediately charged the hunter. Mr. Peterson is an expert shot and pumped three bullets into the grizzly before bringing him down almost at his feet."

My mom's first husband used to be a packer for a lady named Gertrude Maxwell in Elk City Idaho years ago and she had some neat pictures and stories of their elk hunting trips.  I will have to see if she has any cool photos laying around still.  I remember seeing the photos when I was a little kid and that was where my love of hunting and being in the outdoors started just seeing the happiness on their faces.
