my 2015 spring bear
« on: May 14, 2015, 02:40:36 PM »
Last Saturday Killmore and I headed out for our 2015 spring bear trip. Saturday evening after we set up camp we went scouting but ended up with no bear sightings. sunday had us looking over other areas and spotting a sow w/ a cub and another very good bear that took off as soon as we spotted him. Monday morning at 7am we spotted a nice bear feeding and after glassing for cubs we decided he would be worth pursuing. after a quick stalk and a well placed shot I had my first bear. a boar with a chocolate coat. we continued hunting but weren't able to find killmore a bear but he did get his first turkey. killmore ended up finding a nice 5x5 deer skull( and yes he left it in the field). I want to thank killmore for helping me out with my first bear and being a great camp cook, hopefully we'll be back next year for another great hunt.

Beautiful bear. That'll make a great rug. Nice color.

Im usually not a fan of the chocolate bears, just prefer the look of the standard black, but that is one great looking bear. Congrats on the successful hunt.

Fun Times ffhoofer! My legs are still feeling it from our little pursuit, but well worth it! I though I would add to your pictures of this awesome bear. Hopefully next year we'll pull a couple more bear tags and a huge thank you for putting me on my first turkey and that was quit the pursuit too!  ;) ;)

What a beautiful bear

Killmore strikes out again?!!  Oh man, he's got to be Jonesing for a bear...BAD.  At least he's a good camp cook.  ;) ;) :chuckle:

You camp at the cattle guard where he did a few years ago when he had his last tag?
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

I don't know the WAC but I believe it is unlawful to take deer or elk skulls with antlers attached that you find, (moose, goat, sheep) ....to deter poaching I guess.

Great bear! What a great coat and head! Congrats man. The find was cool too btw.

Nice chocolate bear!!!!!!! And to awnser you question i would say around 370lbs. If it was 185 lbs gutted and skint, than you double the meat/bone weight to find Live weight. I learned this from Crown Foods in Spokane. Its simple really, 185lbs=370lbs LIVE WEIGHT. And yes thus works for ANY animal. Congradulations on a beautiful trophy!!!!

sweet bear---congrats....don't really know how to say this while keeping the thread "family friendly" but i noticed on that boar (and the 4 boars i've kilt) that the jewel bag doesn't have the hair quantity as the rest of the body...i've cut all mine out and tanned them to make either snoose pouches or something else cool little pouches... the ones i have are similar to Crown Royal bags.
