I would probably look elsewhere....it's to me kind of a pain to hunt,  and the elk are kinda thin, and hard to find. If you know someone who knows the unit, I think it cold have potential. I stopped applying for deer and elk in there.
I felt like a one legged cat trying to bury a terd on a frozen pond!

I think it would probably be worth the points my dad took about a 320" bull and another guy took a 300" out of the same herd on the same day with the muzzleloader tag a couple years back. My dads bull ran downhill and died in the middle of the road

call and ask what the native harvest has been like over the last 6-12 months or longer if you get someone who has been stationed there for awhile...

Ask the local biologists that work on the YTC for any info they could share

I had the rifle tag last year and hunted about half the season and didn't see an elk.

The archery and muzzle seasons are worth it but the elk are basically gone by rifle

Wheels you are referring to the disabled category alkali tag as opposed to the bull elk category correct? Is season timing different on those?

Do you live within decent driving distance of the firing center? As I understand they only open certain segments of the unit at certain times that would be another thing to take into consideration. My dad lives about 1 1/2 hr drive from there so he can be there pretty quick when they open the right zones

I hunted it pretty hard last year for deer and only saw a hand full of elk two rabbit's and two spikes and like three cows.the tribe shoots anything that moves. Ask the bio to see the harvest book

Yep pretty darn  :bash:
In fairness to those tribal members who just look the other way and let the decimation occur it's not the majority who shoot anything that moves but the minority that shoots anything that moves and makes the silent majority look bad.

I have two hunting buddies that drew rifle tags 8-10 years ago. They only saw a couple of elk but they did see another hunter who was successful

Son and I had the rifle cow tag last year.  A few elk were taken, but we only saw elk one day out of the 8 I was up there, the fog rolled in and we could not see to get on them.  Found a couple promising deer spots.  TIRES, make sure you have some good heavy 10 plies and carry spareS if you get off the major roads.  I went and got some used ones to run up there and was glad I did.  If you do draw PM me, will be glad to share what I learned.

Spend time learning the areas where you live.  Tons of elk there.  That's exactly what I'd do if I just wanted my first elk.

Understood.  I was just offering that your best bet to kill your first elk may be in your backyard.

Ive spent alot of time in there.I think for deer it is a great unit but for elk not so much. Ive seen elk and some pretty nice ones but there few and far between. If you go the gaurds can sometimes point you in the right direction .My advise to you is go get a pass and spend a day looking around and shoot some coyotes. Every elk Ive seen has been within about a half mile from the river.

Makes me sick to think what the alkali has come to, damn sick.  I drew that unit twice for deer back in 2003 and 2004, big deer and lots of them.  Back then they had around 75 tags, now it's 4. (talking rifle deer). Thanks to the few Indians that raped and pillaged, one of the best deer units went right down the crapper.  Selfish B&*T$Rds.
“In common with”..... not so much!!
