Toyo R/T vs Toyo M/T tires

I just put wheels and tires on my 2015 trd sport double cab.  265/70r17 is as big/wide as you can go without leveling or lift.  I went with the At2s and they look and ride great.

I have run toyo mts for about 150k miles now on 2 different rigs.
first rig ate threw tires at about 40k miles, f350, probably grossed 10k daily, and towed a 10k# trailer 3-6 days a week. good traction for most of the time.

current set is on my f250, they are older, wear like iron. probably 50k on them right now with 35ish% tread left, problem is they are like 5 years old, and getting super hard. I can break the rear end loose on in the rain doing 50mph.

I will probably buy them again, though I have been looking at maybe getting more of an AT tire. trucks to heavy to use in the mud anyways.

Had a set of mt on a duramax.... and my Tacoma came with a set of toyo mt.
Snow, ice, sand, they suck! Even with 5psi.
Plus is they look good, and last a long time.

Funny how some guys say they suck and others say they are great.

I have had great luck with the M/T's in snow, ice and mud.  Pulled my 10k trailer 100 yards thru the mud last year to get out of Elk camp.  With a slight uphill grade,  Other guys had to chain up to get out. 

No experience in sand.

I think a lot has to do with how you drive, and what you expect them to do in each situation.

I wont buy the M/T's again however,  too loud on the highway.

Overpriced, crappy in the snow. The Hankook DynaPro AT is what I've been running for the last 4 years. Discount Tore online is the absolute best place to buy tires hands down. Free shipping to your door.

they are expensive. from tirecrawler.com they aren't as bad.
I think im going to switch it up some and run the cooper discovery st maxx. pretty good reviews, should be better on the hiway and still good enough traction to get me around in the woods/desert just fine.

They ride nice - they are a little noisier than the factory tires, but not bad at all.   They are 265/70R17.    I think you gain around 1" in height over factory.

I got these on my jeep a few months ago and they ride nice and quiet! and were almost $400 cheaper than toyos

I just switched from MT's to RT's when I bought new ones after 70 on the MT's. Both work well in the snow but the RT's seem superior in the snow and especially the ice in my opinion. WAAAAAAAYYY quieter. The RT's are an upgrade in my experience. Not in the mud but everywhere else. I have 3/4 ton diesel dodge towing sleds and stuff and lots of snow time. Well, not this year..

   Just switched from MT to RT recently.  I'm not sure you'll find a tire with aggressive tread that rides as good.

I ran the M/T on my 2010 Tacoma and they did excellent in the deep wet snow and the mud, I very much prefer Goodyear Duramax tires though. Rated as a snow tire they are incredible offroad and the ride on the road is 10x better and quieter than the Toyos.

Well, I am going to les schwab tomorrow and having them put the m/t and the r/t on the wheel I want on my truck to get a true visual.  I am leaning towards r/t's.  I will post a pic with what I decide.

Funny thing about tires is that people buy what they WISH they needed but not what they do.  Most people would do great with some A/T and a set of link chains but most people buy M/T despite the fact they mostly pound pavement.
 MOST people dont drive 50/50 on/ off road so they should buy an A/T and chains. unless your a logger or farmer then that may change. If your a logger then your likely a die hard toyo M 55 fan and i can't say i blame you... LOTs of your fellow loggers agree. IMO if a was a generic hunter that liked to offroad a bit id get the  M55... IMO its kind of like the old BFG mud terrain. the best compromise between off road performance and street wear....
