School me on a trail cam for driveway surveillance
« on: June 11, 2015, 11:29:45 AM »
Period smash and grabs/car prowlings in the neighborhood. Have a good location for a cam that would be relatively hidden and still get the comings/goings up our drive.
i'm assuming IR would be necessary for nighttime??
Any thoughts? Brands?

I use a Bushnell and it works great. it is in my drive way pointing toward the street. I cut it into a Pyramid tree.  put in a big sd card . because you will get a lot of photos of creatures and things in the dark.

I locked mine to the tree trunk with those long metal strips you can buy at the hardware store with all the holes in them. You can bend them easy and run a padlock through the holes.

I think you would be better off with something like this:

I use a Bushnell in my driveway, don't point it south, IR definitely, locking bear box and locking cable, try to point it at the most funneled place, don't advertise, get a few pics and then maybe drop a few let the word get out....

I would go lights out instead of ir. There is no visible light from the cams that way.

Can you explain that lights out?  I definately don't want any visible light that would tip off a trespasser.
I'm assuming the prowling is after dark just to clarify.

But you'd have to have a way for motion detection and vid/pic capture; there is no provision for on-board motion detection or capture and storage.
