silver bite was hot this morning........if you want to increase landed fish quit pinching the barbs on your lures and cut them off and install a true barbless hook, specifically one with a offset and and three sided point.  look at the eagle claw offering, the trokar octopus style is what I like but there are others out there....big difference in fish brought to net

It might start looking like this:

Wow, slow day.

On Sunday, we had a guy run by my starboard side at full throttle that just about swamped us.  I would guess no further than 15 feet, maybe 10.  I could have easily tossed him a sandwich he was that close.

I don't mind crowds at all, it is just the few DBs that make life interesting.  My kids have a full list of stuff they are permanently forbid from doing.

Give people as much room as you can, run on the outside of the crowds, troll the right way or at least in a predictable manner, give the guy fighting fish room and try not to pass more than 20 boats while going through the no wake zone.

One thing I will never understand is why folks don't have the courtesy to run outside the crowds. Why run wide open right through the middle of where everyone's trolling. Seems like the nice thing to do given everyone is there for pretty much the same reason.

I agree with that....however.....every humpy year it gets so thick with boats that by the last two/three weekends there is simply no choice. At that point I say to heck with it and pick the best line I can and run it. On the flip side, I don't get worked up with a boat goes by on plane and there is only 40 yards between he and I because on the other side of him is another boat and another. Just part of the chaos during humpy season. Now, give it a few weeks when there are not 2000 boats on the water and I will go out of my way to not buzz anyone.

Yep........the next three weekends I think will be full blown humpy mania. Brother in law is heading out Saturday and I've got RSO training on Sunday.

During S4S just watch for my North River flying the Stars and Stripes in the bow running full bore like my tail is on fire!

If you see someone that looks like they're already swamped even when there's no waves, thats me.  14' boat, yellow console.  Ugly as heck.  If you see me, throw me food.  My boat illustrates my financial situation.

Dont swamp the little guy, the fear is real. :yike:

Anybody have a guess as to how long they will hold at Shipwreck?

One year I caught a humpy on Halloween day at the shipwreck.  He wasn’t in the best shape but he was still alive enough to chase down my lure.

But usually the numbers of pinks around Possession Sound declines rapidly after Labor Day even without significant rain.  A good sustained downpour in Sept. and they can disappear overnight.

Are you guys picking up silvers on traditional silver gear or are they biting the pink stuff?  I had what I believe was a pretty good sized king on last week but it popped off before we could see it, bit on pink gear.

My kid has caught three coho in the last couple weeks, but we are always using traditional coho/king gear.  The pinks bite green and white just fine.

Just got back from the Shipwreck.  The good news is that I took my wife and 6 year old and we got 2 pinks.  These are the first fish I have caught with my downrigger.  First fish I have ever caught on a downrigger.  The strange news was that one did not come off the clip so who knows how long I was dragging it around.  Obviously I am still working out the kinks.  :chuckle: The other fish I caught as my gear was dropping down.  A seal took a bite out of one.  We got back to the ramp right as the thunder was starting-up.  My fishfinder was doing bad things so for much of the morning I was guessing on depth with intermittent help from the finder.  I call it a successful trip since I got the downrigger to produce for the first time.

Doc....This year I swear the humpies have never bit "lighter". I've been barely putting the line in the clip and have not had any really pop it. Just watch for irregular action on the rod....that slight dip could be fish on. Nice job getting a few in the boat.
