When I drew a oryx tag in New Mexico,  United States outfitters sent me a congrats letter offering their services before I even knew I drew. I've also been contacted by several folks for being a prior blues tag holder, compliments of wdfw...

Instead of everybody throwing out answers of "how they think it goes" why doesnt someone just call the game department and ask them. Dang, what an idea. Or you can just keep arguing about it for 10 pages :)

Grump  :P

weird they can access your info, I think he is legit he just has never been a packer or guide before.

It's probably done under a FOIA request  :twocents:

It's not a FOIA request inasmuch I suspect the DFW sells the list as part of a marketing buy. I don't know this for sure, but this approach is used by magazines to email all for direct marketing access to those people who drew special tags, etc.

Simple, effective measure but DFW can get in hot water if they're supplying these lists without "opt-in/out" selections or if they've not complied with proper notification of members.

Can't quote any USC here but I'm pretty doubtful of a State Department selling personally identifiable information.

I'll bet you a root beer float there's a marketing list being accessed/sold/provided which includes names, addresses and emails of everyone in the state who has a WildID. Then, an exported and filtered list can be provided and absorbed into any email/CRM program for a quick blast email or form letter.

There's no other way for snail mail to be targeted in the way described.

I'd be a little PO'd at the WDFW for giving out my info. I do not like that at all.. I'd call WDFW and give them a piece of my mind. I'm on the do not call list and subscribe to have all junk mailed stopped.

Freedom of info act.
 :dunno:
It's public information.

 :yeah:

I can call almost any state and get a list of successful applicants "free".

In Wyoming they actually sell lists of unsuccessful applicants, I've bought the list before as it's a great marketing tool.  :twocents:

Even if it wasn't under FOIA there'd probably be a lawsuit sooner or later to compel the state so that people can verify that there were actually hunters drawn for tags. I suspect this would be filed by residents ensuring that the state didn't secretly give them out to non residents for the higher tag price.

Just had a call from White Pass Outfitters. He seemed like a nice guy on the phone and said he is in process of receiving the USFS permit for the area, he said he has worked that area for years, and he said he will be joining the forum. Then you guys who are interested in hunts can send him messages directly.

The original post mentioned his son got the information about White Pass Outfitters in the mail.... wondering how it happened so fast. The discussion ensued as to how and I suggested it was DFW selling this list to outfitters, marketers, etc.

Looks like Dale has used this approach before out of state.

I'm looking forward to that Rootbeer Float now (I'm only on this kick because of the other thread *censored*!)

Sidebar: did you convert well from that list?  I suspect there are not too many DFW states that would refuse selling this list.

I am Kent and I am the owner of White Pass Outfitters. I was the former owner of Indian Creek Corral before Jerry Jefferson was packing for John Borton who is the current owner. I outfitted out of the corral for 4 seasons. Ive hunted and packed in the area for over 30 years. The FS is issuing me a new permit so there is a legal outfitter in the area and due to my past experience. I will have the permit in hand soon, its a time consuming process. And as far as my website the whitetails were taken on the snake river on public land, BY JET BOAT. And all the pictures on my website were from my old website from Indian Creek Corral not from Jerry's, the owner of ICC took over my website. the picture with ICC in the background is my Dad holding a clients bull that we got in unit 364.
I also am looking into buying the corral back so we can run off all the illegal outfitters.
And for references my first one would be Paul Wilson of Chinook outfitters. And I would like to thank all of the people for the non-negative remarks. If you have any questions feel free to call me or email me. Thanks and Good Luck Hunting
