Can't quote any USC here but I'm pretty doubtful of a State Department selling personally identifiable information.

Yeah, and it also sounds doubtful that the US Department of Justice would risk citizens lives by selling truckloads of guns to cartels to maybe infiltrate their criminal organization.   :bash:

Email marketing to the highest bidder sounds right up their alley.  :chuckle:

Welcome to White Pass Outfitters, I'm glad you joined the forum Kent. I'd like to use you sometime for a drop camp!

As to the WDFW giving out names and addresses of permit holders- big deal. As others have said, all states do it. The hunters might actually benefit by getting mail from outfitters who operate in the area that they drew. Such as in this case, how else would anyone have known about White Pass Outfitters?

I agree with you bobcat.  I have no problem with outfitters contacting those who drew permits.

We certainly would not have known about White Pass Outfitters otherwise, and Kent has been very helpful.  As one who has never used an outfitter I consider myself a rookie on the subject, and Kent has been very helpful and professional in explaining how things work.

I'd be a little PO'd at the WDFW for giving out my info. I do not like that at all.. I'd call WDFW and give them a piece of my mind. I'm on the do not call list and subscribe to have all junk mailed stopped.

Freedom of info act.
 :dunno:
It's public information.

 :yeah:

I can call almost any state and get a list of successful applicants "free".

weird they can access your info, I think he is legit he just has never been a packer or guide before.

It's probably done under a FOIA request  :twocents:

It's not a FOIA request inasmuch I suspect the DFW sells the list as part of a marketing buy. I don't know this for sure, but this approach is used by magazines to email all for direct marketing access to those people who drew special tags, etc.

Simple, effective measure but DFW can get in hot water if they're supplying these lists without "opt-in/out" selections or if they've not complied with proper notification of members.

Can't quote any USC here but I'm pretty doubtful of a State Department selling personally identifiable information.

I'll bet you a root beer float there's a marketing list being accessed/sold/provided which includes names, addresses and emails of everyone in the state who has a WildID. Then, an exported and filtered list can be provided and absorbed into any email/CRM program for a quick blast email or form letter.

There's no other way for snail mail to be targeted in the way described.

In Wyoming they actually sell lists of unsuccessful applicants, I've bought the list before as it's a great marketing tool.  :twocents:

I wondered in the beginning of this thread of Kent was taking it back over.  He knows that area very well and you would be very happy with your experience. He knows where the better bulls hangout in those units.  If I was looking for someone to pack me in I wouldn't hesitate to have Kent do it.

Welcome and my only concern is showing successful white tails hunts and advertising for the white pass area?  When I seen your ads first appear on yakima Craigslist I first it was possibly a scam. You're marketing for the White Pass area and showing a white tail kill? From the sound of some members you sound like a decent guy and knowledgeable of the area so best of luck and again welcome.

It appears this has been asked a couple times, not speaking for the outfitter, but on his website he advertises " jet sled hunts" which I highly doubt he does on the tieton or American rivers, but rather the snake or Columbia rivers??? Just a thunk....

I don't see a problem with it. Sounds like you are trying to help some people out. If I didn't have so much going on this year I might actually consider looking into your services. Maybe next year!

WY, NV, and OR (probably more) all give out information also.  I read somewhere that it is public record.

FYI - It's public info, you can apply for this type info in most any state.

 :yeah:

All he has to do is file a PDR.  WDFW has no choice.
