Open carry question
« on: September 20, 2015, 06:03:57 PM »
Maryland resident coming west for a hunting trip with my dad in October, and I'm wondering about open carry. I know OC is legal in WA--but do you think I'd get any grief from the fuzz since I will not be hunting? (No long gun, not buying a license this time around.)

Thanks in advance!

Should not be a problem... unless you fail the personality test when you interact with an officer.

Nope. You can open carry for no good reason at all. Barring those typically forbidden places such as court houses, bars, private establishments. You just have to be unloaded in a vehicle unless you are traveling to and from a lawful outdoor activity, in which case you carry concealed. You can carry concealed while hunting as well.

You know, you just pull it out of the holster and show it to him. Cops love that.

I am new at all this too... I never owned a pistol in my life but that changed ...hahaha So if  someone has a concealed permit and your driving down the road and it is laying on your seat of your vehicle it has to be unloaded ? Or does it need to be concealed ?

You get extra credit if you are open carrying a box of doughnuts.

Sorry. Had to.

I would say calling a LEO "the FUZZ" fails the personality test.       :chuckle:

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of cops don't know the laws and may not be aware that it's legal to have a loaded handgun in your vehicle while traveling to and from any outdoor activity.

I got pulled over on Hwy 14 once when i was going scouting for elk with my cousin. I didnt pull the DOT # placard on the side of my one ton when I dropped my trailer in VanTucky and headed up twords Carson. The CVE officer pulled me over just because, and we had a box of Crispy creame donuts in the truck for breakfast.. I got a written warning for an unsecured load  2 pieces of 4x4 and a strap in the back of the truck... He commented on how good the donuts smelled... I think i got the Written warnign cause i didnt offer him some, and he made us late...

Pack a loaded weapon every where but the truck. unload and put in a bag/case while in the truck...  I believe the law states that a gun must be transported unloaded and in an Opaque container.

BTW its the Attitude test not the personality test... Dont be a D!ck and you wont have trouble.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.
