Quail, Chukar, Hun Opener 10/3/2015
« on: October 02, 2015, 10:37:56 AM »
Anyone getting out for the Quail, Chukar, Hun Opener? Personally, I find the rather Summer-like weather to be distracting to my hunting focus.

Any BIG PLANS?

I may take my shotgun for a walk Saturday morning along the blue grouse/chukar transition zone
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I thought about chasing some quail and huns down by you Tom, but I think I'm going to chase so grouse instead.  Down by you this summer, I saw quite a few coveys of Huns though.

I will be out there chasing quail and chuckar.

I look forward to this hunt all year, lots of fun chasing those little birds around.
You will never shoot a camp bull by spending all your time hunting in the woods.

Over here on the far east side of the state, I am pleased to say that I saw more birds opening day than I have seen in the past 10 - 15 yrs.  Easy winter and lack of cloud bursts during nesting was a huge help.  Any brushy draw with a spring still holding water is holding birds.  Likely that lack of water is concentrating the birds too.

Lab pup had a ball.

Spent most of my $$ on huntin, fishin & retrievin dogs, the rest I just pretty much wasted.

Very good year for birds

I was at the top of my honey hole draw yesterday and wish I would of brought the shotgun instead of the muzzleloader. Should be a good fall.
