Hunting in Hungary
« on: October 03, 2015, 12:29:38 PM »
I had the opportunity to hunt Red Stagg in Hungary while in the rut so to hear them do the roar reminded me of elk season. I ended up shooting the first stagg I saw at 150yards about 10 minutes of shooting light. He came out to chase hinds around at about 250 but was hoping to get him closer

Pretty cool!!!

What's the story on laying the branches all around and on the animals? Some sort of tradition?

Once you shoot an animal you will place a branch in your hat and they will cover the blood spots on the animal with a branch too. The wreath around it is also a tradition that goes back into the European hunting history. In order for you to hunt for another animal you have to take out the branch in your hat and once you shoot another animal you get another branch.

I've been invited to a private estate in Austria and Hungary to hunt stag and boar. Hopefully I can put it together soon. Nice pics, you guys. Thanks.

it depends on the size of the stagg you shoot now Europe does it by weight in kilograms of the boiled skull with lower jaw and antlers which is confusing but the guides will give you an estimate weight before you shoot. if they are off and it is bigger they can only charge 15% more than estimated weight. you wont pay the actual weight. most guides are really good at judging my guide told me 9 to 9.5 kilo and actual weight was 9.15kg
