Mule deer at the Powder River, in the shadow of the majestic Bighorn Mountains, and pronghorn of the Red Desert.

I love that mule deer pic especially, although both are great. Nice meat, too, BC!

I think I built too much suspense for nothing  :sry: Hate to disappoint, guys, but its just an average buck for my first. I'm pretty sure I passed on a few that were bigger than the one I shot, then there was the much nicer one that I shot at and completely missed, due to my stupidity chronicled here: http://hunting-washington.com/smf/index.php/topic,183565.0.html

None the less, here they are:

Just didn't want to break your monitor by making it display my ugly mug.  :chuckle:

It was my buddy's mule deer. BOB = Buddy of Beancounter  :) I had to pass on a deer tag to make the new expensive scope fit with the budget. Oddly enough if I would have just kept the old fixed 6x scope that was on it I would probably got the nicer one I shot at and missed several times  :bash:

He was good, perhaps a smidge better than the one my buddy killed. He pretty much sat there the whole time watching his pal get shot, carried up the cut, and us to do all our silly photos up top. When we were packing up my buddy took one last look at the area and was like "hey, what's that white glint down in the shade down there?" answer: the muleys nose  :o

We passed a few hunters on the way out and agreed that if anyone asked if we had seen any deer, we would have told them about Waldo, but nobody did. So I guess he lives to breed the does for the winter and make new bucks  :IBCOOL:

Wyo doe tags for antelope are pretty cheap right? Could a guy get a little hunt in during a family vacation perhaps?

WyG&F has a ton of info on its website, including phone numbers of land owners you can call for free or cheap access. One thing you should plan on is having to go after the rifle Buck season is over so they can sell access to the clients with the big wallets before allowing us little people on. Not all but many I called last year (our first away year) we're like this. We already planned on being there early last year so 'twas the best laid plans of mice and men for us. We actually ate the tags we bought in the spring.

But then, we happened to meet a landowner by coincidence and he told us to buy some doe tags for their unit and come out and kill as many as we want.  We be like: yeah ok  :)  we took good care of the guy, taking him out to dinner at the nicest restaurant in town and later mailing him some unique gifts from the Southwest, and now it seems as though we have a standing invitation to kill does and bucks on 50,000+ acres of one of the ten people who actually live in Wyoming.  :chuckle: with the exception of my pronghorn buck tag we filled all our tags on their land.

If I were you I'd pick up the phone and make a few calls right now even if it's next year on your mind so you can get an idea how the game works. Good luck.

No problem. If you find a good plot of land you can fill several doe tags in an afternoon. Sending you a pm for a few more tips
