According to Valerius Geist in "Mule Deer Country"  DNA testing has determined that it was the mating of whitetail does and blacktail bucks that gave rise to the mule deer, and not the other way around.  A highly respected biologist from the University of  Alberta.   :dunno:

This kinda talk about Muley - blacktail - bench leg just cracks me up ! A deer is a deer ...If it has Horns of any kind I am into hunting it down ...lmao   I just love when guys bring up it was a bench leg bucks , its like they are down grading it or something...they all grow horns and they all taste good ! haha
