Bayview – Edison land?

What is going on with the WDFW land off of the Bayview Edison Road near the Samish River?

They have cleared the entire place and appear to be in the middle of a major project.

That wasn’t the best piece of land to hunt but now it is useless.  I hope they eventually improve the waterfowl habitat there.

Also doing a bunch of work at the headquarters site.  Half of that is unhuntable now and closed during the week.  That project just started too right before hunting season starts very convenient.

So far these projects don't seem to benefit the waterfowl.  HQ is nothing like it used to be unfortunately.

Like I've mentioned before. HQ went to hell with the "salmon restoration", then the samish unit was next, and you can kiss any huntable areas in the bay view/Edison goodbye as well.  Nothing new. Easy to see coming.

Wetland restoration = young salmon habitat. Wdfw can call it what they want. The bird hunting will be worse than it was when crops were grown.

If there is no dike breach then please do tell how this becomes a salmon habitat project? Did you bother to read the document in the link I posted? There never were crops grown on the property in question. Moist soil management and swales make pretty good waterfowl habitat compared to a field of Reed Canary Grass and other Noxious weeds.

I hear lot's of whining about salmon restoration projects. Headquarters...Whaaaaaaaaaa!. What did you do about it when the project was proposed? What about Leque island, Fir Island Farms, and the Island Unit?

Crops have absolutely been grown in every one of the units mentioned.  Quality of waterfowl units on most of the west side are going in the tank. Let's not kid ourselves.  Main reason I fly home to Alaska to bird hunt. Western Washington just isn't that good anymore.

(The property being referred to by the O.P. is the piece of WDFW property next to the dike near the mouth of the Samish river.)

Yes, your public lands are being used for salmon restoration projects. Yes, crops have traditionally been grown on those properties to feed waterfowl. I never stated otherwise.

Again, What did you do about it?

Nevermind... just fly to Alaska to hunt ducks.

This is why I quit ducking ...Luckily I have seen some of the best waterfowl hunting this state had to offer ...Nothing like it was 25 yrs ago ...I could hunt just about anywhere I felt like it ...Private or not .. now its nothing but a joke ..telling a hunter where he has to sit tells it all ...how can anyone get excited to hunt these public spots where they put up a blind and tell you to sit here ?  There is no way in heck I could hunt like this ..you sit here but the ducks are going over there !!!  lmao ....They can have it all

The primary goals of the project are to diversify wetland habitat and restore natural functions to benefit wildlife. The project involves creating depressions, swales, basins, and mounds in a 103.9 acre flat field, planting native plants, installing habitat log structures, removing drain tiles, creating a moist soil management area for wildlife, and using spoils to create a parking area and pad for a portable toilet. The project area is adjacent to the Samish River and is separated from the river by a dike, which is managed by the local diking district. The dike will not be altered as part of this project."
