Prince William Sound Blacktails
« on: November 21, 2015, 04:50:25 PM »
Recently went to the islands to hunt Sitka Blacktails with a few people from work, we had four days to hunt and made the most of it. We killed 11 deer in 4 days, 9 bucks and 2 does. I was able to bag 4 bucks including a double on some nice little bucks. The deer aren't afraid of gunfire, as multiple times another deer walked out when we were gutting one we just shot. We're already planning to book for next year. I even got a unicorn spike to round out the last day. Need to take my duck gun next year, harlequins and goldeneye everywhere.

Which island or islands did you hunt? My friends in Cordova have been taking some nice bucks. They also said there are a lot of small bucks and if this winter in mild, there will be some whoppers next year.

All boat access, we had a transporter take us and drop us off and we used a skiff to get around, no roads and 100 mile boat ride to get there. We were on Montague island, but all the big islands have a lot of deer.. It's was mid 30s during the day and teens at night, with windchill probably a lot less. Didn't see any bears, or even sign in the fresh snow.

Good Job those are my favorite deer I harvested a 2 point on Prince of Wales Island in August shoot 19 years ago I would love to go back up there and shoot a handful of deer like you guys did. I know some guys hunting out of montegue Island and heard it was stormy we shot bears not far from Whittier.

Montague is a good time. I've hunted Rocky Bay and Zaikov Bay and Stockdale.  I spend a little time in the summer fishing in Port Chalmers.

Nice bucks! I've only hunted black bear in Prince William Sound, congrats on the haul.  Did you get a chance to do any shrimping while you were there?  Alaska deer are a lot more stupid compared to Washington black tail as I've noticed this year.

Awesome adventure!  Looks really fun.  My lady and I did a day of halibut fishing out of Whittier last year, on a sunny clear day.  Montague and all the other islands are beautiful- I'd love to do a Sitka blacktail hunt up there some year.
