Sawyer gravity filter, works the same as the platypus but with a better filter.

Depends on the hunt.  If you have flowing water or mountain lakes you are pulling from then aquamira drops are money.  If elk wallow is gonna be your likely water source then I take the Katadyn.

:chuckle:  :yeah: wouldn't recommend dropping an aquamira in some good ol' muddy wallow water/pee

 :puke:
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

:chuckle:  Let's face it though, even the K filters aren't gonna make that water taste good.  Ya it's gonna be good to go but tasty.....not so much!

Those Katadyn base camp filters are great plus for a couple of bucks you can get an attachment that allows you to use it as a portable shower

I use to bring water with me when I went camping, but I stopped that years ago, I drink out of whatever creek or river iam close to,this would be eastern wa. only, have gone camping in spring and drank water that looked like beer,i even bring water home with me in 5gallon jugs, tastes better,i have a MSR plus a Katadyn that I have never used.

I think I just got a little beaver fever just reading that. That'll get you one of these days.

Is the Katadyn Hiker PRO Water Filter better then the MSR Sweetwater Filter? I have been using the MSR but it seems like it takes forever to fill up a bottle, just wondering if the Katadyn is quicker and easier to use...

YES!!!!  The Sweetwater is silly slow.  Only used it once and that was enough for me! :bdid:

I've seen people make a gravity filter out of a Sawyer Mini/Squeeze. Doesn't seem hard to do, and its cheap to boot!
I am one of those....

Some of the fittings are tough to get (unless you order in bulk)
I did a lot of searching around and was able to pull it off though...

Cheap, light, and made me proud!

Darn!  I was hoping someone wouldn't say that.  Now I have to buy one, and they aren't cheap. Thanks for the info.

Katadyn pro hiker here too. Zero complaints.

x3 or 4 or 5....

ya it's awesome.   I don't carry bladder bags anymore just a couple nalgene bottles but I'm swapping those to kleen canteen stainless so if needed I could cook in them or melt snow in it
