Got a call on my cell Friday afternoon on my cell from CS. Here I was thinking it was calling to tell me they were bailing and heading home, but NO, it was to in a round about way say, we're out of gas and need help......

He could not figure out if they were out of gas or not, so I told him I was on my way and decide what he needed when I get there. We found them on the east side of the lake about 30 yards from shore with there anchor out and wind blowing...... we got there keys to there trruck, ran back to the launch and grabbed there spare gas  an out of there truck and took it back to them all the way across the lake.

Now what good does it to bring a spare gas can if your not going to carry it with you 

But it sounds as though running out of gas was the start of there problems for the trip home

I wasn't leaving anything out ....just didn't have time to write it up yet .Well, after captain of the boat that I was on run us out of gas ....and we were being pushed onto the beach ( yes ,the anchor was slipping pretty bad in the wind and the sandy bottom) I made the call to Mr.Wonderful -aka Gasman ...and he helped us with the gas situation - I guess his nickname says it all "GASMAN" On the way back I'd say 10 miles before the Snoqaulmie pass the boat trailer tire blew up ,but neither of us noticed it - I told my friend who was driving that the road must be icy (it was around 8 pm and snowing) because I felt like the trailer slid .
Anyhow as we drove down from the top of Snoqualmie pass he rolled down the window and we heard weird noise..... it was clear something is going on.
We stopped and couldn't believe it - the rim was flat and almost perfectly rounded like metal wheel .So we changed the tire and drove to his house ..on the way we felt this shaking and were thinking the rear passenger tire lost balancing weight or something. We got to his house and the other trailer tire had wires coming out of the rubber and would have been gone in matter of couple more miles .... Anyhow , we got lucky and made it home in one piece .

That's a great catch. Now that you got it figured out you should really consider releasing those large females. I know its hard to do but every thing we can do to keep this fishery strong will benefit everyone in the long run. The state will not do anything to protect this fishery, so its up to us as sportsman to do are part. 

I've argued with a buddy about this.  Releasing big females is great but little ones need released to grow...  They cant grow if they're thrown on the fryer.... Some people fish till their limit is full and other only keep a few every now and again which is how I personally think ot should be done if you actually care about future walleye fishing.

Now you cant post fishing pictures? Its a good topic, but start another thread. I'm glad Gasman had a great time and kept some fish. Hate to see a good success thread stained by a can or can not keep fish debate. This being said...Unleash the hounds!!

Great fish Gasman! Congrats! Don't sweat keeping them, people have been raking large walleyes out of Potholes, Moses and Banks for decades yet they keep producing. Walleye aren't going anywhere.

Some of the fish we pulled up had there stomach bloated and sticking out there throat, like the big one I caught.  She had my hook way down on the gills and stomach blocking the hook. It was tuff getting it unhooked with out getting my self poked by them big teeth......

Totally agree with you Maverick. Its true that they have been taking large fish for years, but not in the numbers they do now. Its crazy the amount of pressure these fish receive, and the limits are way, way, way to big. Just look at the slot limits they have in the Midwest and plane states where they actually like walleye and manage them as such. Im not bashing anyone for keeping fish that the state lets you keep, however I will do everything I can to encourage people to release most of them. Its good for you, its good for me and its good for the fishery.

I don't want to derail Gasmans success thread, but I think he is ok with continuing this discussion. I was not a fan of changing the limit and minimum size on the Basin lakes to what it is today. I think 5 fish, minimum length of 18" and one over 24" was working.  It made the fishery what it is today. Lake Erie was 6 fish, minimum size 15", no slot, off PA waters, and Ohio was 6 fish, no minimum size in Erie. Lake Erie is huge, but can we learn from other successful walleye fisheries to help manage our waters? Our 8 fish, with a 12" minimum is taking a lot of young fish out before they can reach spawning age. Are our waters big enough to produce enough fish to keep up with this demand? Fishing seemed to be good through all of the 90s and 00s, wonder what the future holds. Plugger, I know you are a knowledgeable fisherman, where would you like to see the limits and lengths set?

I'd suggest we not pollute gasmans most excellent success thread with a bunch of personal opinions about whether or not the keeping of a few big fish makes a a guy (and by extension, gasman) an unethical walleye fisherman.  I've had this discussion with many of my fellow walleye fishers on here and elsewhere over the years, and there is no way this won't end up as a pissing contest.  People have opinions and that's fine, but mucking up a rightfully happy dude's thread with them when he clearly didn't want to weigh in on it himself is not very classy.
