CVA vs Traditions

Okay looking at up grading to a better muzzleloader currently have a traditions trakker but want to get something a little better. Was looking at the CVA optima or accura northwest editions and the traditions vortex northwest edition have done a little research but want some more input. Thanks

Knight bighorn I have had one going on seven years now and it's been flawless.I had a CVA bolt action muzzy it shot good but felt cheap i got rid of it pretty quickly.I do have a CVA v2 scout pistol which is nice.Traditions just feels well really cheaply made and i would not buy one based on that.You can't go wrong with a Knight muzzy it's what everyone compares other muzzleoaders to.

My family and i all have oprimas. So 4 of them now. They are great guns. I still like my elkhorns to.

I do not like traditions. I bought one and had all kinds of trouble with it.

We have 5 traditions and love them. They did have some issues a while back with the NW editions but we haven't had any issues since and have combined shot several hundred rounds.

Love my traditions vortek...only had one misfire and that was my own stupid fault...other than that I have put a pile of bullets down the barrel and never had a problem...I'm sure either way you will have a good gun

The Optima is an excellent gun, and is one of the most popular Nortwest options. You may also want to look at the Traditions Pursuit, which they just released in a Northwest configuration this year. The price point is very similar to the Optima, whereas the Vortek is more of a step up overall.

the optima says its designed for loose powder, but can you use pellets or no?

No they aren't junk, sure, knight is a great rifle, but calling tge other 2 junk is unfair, their low point muzzle versions aren't in the same caliber as a knight, but they don't cost nearly as much. I love my optima v2, wouldn't trade it for a knight.

FAR from junk.

CVA Optima can use both loose powder and pellets, not sure where you read loose powder only.

The factory supplied breech plug works with pellets and all black powder sub powders.

When it comes to Blackhorn209, CVA offers an upgrade breech plug designed specifically for bh209 but it also works with all the other loose powders.

I've been using Traditions a lot more lately and they've come a LONG way from their previous rifles. I am even use their Woodsman Hawken Flintlock which is an excellent rifle.

i never said i read it could ONLY be used with loose powder. i have read in a few places that the plug was designed for loose powder so that is why i asked for clarification.
