Columbia Spring Kings
« on: February 22, 2016, 11:54:57 AM »
I am looking into booking a day of fishing the Columbia for spring chinook for my wife and I.  I have done some internet research, gathered what info I could from the Puyallup sportsmans show, but thought I would reach out on here too.  Does anyone have any recommendations for Columbia guides in the spring?

I would fish with Toby muck, sidewinder charters. 24' covered/heated north river sled. He fishes the cathlamet area.

The lower river I believe closes April 9th, and that's right when it starts getting really good, I would try for the latest dates you can get.

Ok thanks for the info, I will look into him.  The wife would like the heated, covered boat option haha.

Cameron Black - Gone Catching guide service is a good option.  He has it dialed and seems to have a high catch ratio on the fish.

Clancy guide service or Toby from sidewinder charters.  Most of the guides run open sleds so dress warm.

Thanks for the info guys.  Never been on a guided fishing trip before, and if we end up going, just want to get as much info as possible so we can make the best choice.  I have never been spring chinook fishing either for that matter, so I appreicate knowing that booking later is better.

I don't even bother trying until the very end.  There's a few fish around early but I don't have any interest in lucking into a fish once every 5 trips.

I'll add Eric Linde, Jack and Brandon Glass and the " One Armed Bandit" guide service. I see these guides year after year in the I-205 to Davis Bar stretch of the river and they are all very successful. If you have trouble finding an available spot during the short season below Bonneville consider booking a trip at Drano or the Wind River during May. Also, just because the season is scheduled to close on April 9th that doesn't mean there won't be an extension. Especially since this is shaping up to be a high, cold water season for Springers.  :twocents:

if the columbia has as many seals as i seen in the cowlitz by my house today those salmon are going to be swimming thru a mine field of teeth and fur. i seen several hundred of them today the most ive ever seen and i live on the river! i was shocked to see so many it looked like the docks in astoria. :yike:
