Summit Climbing tree stands

I just received a older summit climbing stand.  2005, but has never been up a tree.  The tag on it has a number of models, but no marking as to which one it is, nor does the manual with it.  So old the original owner does not recall what model, it does have two harnesses.  It is my 1st tree stand, so just hoping to get more info on it verify capacity.

Anyone have any familiarity with the brand?

I just bought a used Viper.  Not as old as yours.  Have you checked out the Summit website?  I downloaded and printed out the manual for mine from there.

yeah I looked around,  I have a printed manual, but the manual covers 7 models, and the tag lists all 7 as well.  I just sent them a customer contact, see if they can help ID it.

Looks like a Summit viper classic tree stand. If I recall correctly, they are rated for 250lbs or 300lbs.

just about every tree stand is rated for at least 250...most are rated for 300... unless your a really big boy it will be just fine for you.   Ya said it's your first... take it out in the back yard and practice going up and down a tree before heading into the woods... climbers will be noisy at first but with practice ya can get em to climb a bit quieter... also practice shooting from the stand... lot different then shooting from the ground.

Looks like I am ok, tags has lowest @260.  Assuming it is a viper, 300...  Yeah one reason I wanted to get it now, get used to being in it and shooting.

I have only shot out of my tree stand three times, three dead deer. They were all within 25yds but I didn't notice anything different other than nerves but good luck practicing that. The coolest thing is watching them come in not having a clue you're there.

I own a couple  of summit vipers they are pretty darn quiet.  I second the harness system. Youll use a comfortable one but not the freebies with the stand. I think the key to being quiet is practice and figuring out the right way to travel with them and not have them clank. I used some pipe insulation and taped it on to the angled sections on the seat.

Find a tree at the top of a bank or steep hill.  Then set the stand low enough to just hop out of while practicing.  Makes life a lot easier!  Of course bribing kids with a trip for pizza and/or ice cream will work too.

Heh, yeah wallet got a bit of a workout this weekend for sure, but hopefully the new gear will help make this season successful.

Yup, after watching this video series it is Def a Viper, pretty stocked given I got it with two harnesses for $125 and I do not think it has ever seen a tree or been outside of a garage.  Mine matches the one he reviews exactly.

Anyone looking into climbing tree stands, this guy has a nice 4 part video about using one.  I learned quite a bit, much easier to see it being done and the how/why than reading a manual sometimes.

Quick follow up for those that care, but also a big Kudos..

I sent contact us form in on Summit website asking about a way to identify the stand.  I did that on Sun night.  Early Monday morning I got a response back fro their customer support asking a few questions about the stand itself as well as pictures if I had any.  sent pictures and had a response back within an hour.  They needed more information so I measured what they asked and then stumbled on serial numbers which I provided them.  Again I had a response 1st thing the next morning that I have a Viper x5 built in 2005!

I must say the promptness and helpfulness of the response was quite nice to see.  They did not make $ from me, and as far as they know may never, but they helped me quickly and professionaly.  If I ever need another stand, it will be a Summit/API just based on the build of the one I have and especially the Mfg support.

Ive used 4 different climbers and Love my Summit the best. Ive used API bowhunter API grand slam, a Rivers edge steel fold able and the Summit Viper I think its the quietest and easiest to operate.

I have one as well. I Don't use it very often but it's been good the time I have. most of the time the trees I want to hunt out of are too big for the stand.
