Ruger tang safety trigger
« on: March 13, 2016, 11:18:29 AM »
My son has a ruger 77 with a tang safety. The trigger is horrible, I believe these are adjustable but can't find anything confirming it or explaining it? Any input?

The factory trigger was only adjustable up to about 1984, after that they are not. You can swap it out for a Timney, http://www.timneytriggers.com/shop/Ruger-Model-77-Tang-Safety-P17.aspx

What are the first 4 numbers of the serial?

I put a Timney in my M77 .243. It was my first trigger job and I am very happy with it. My Ruger was manufactured in the early 70's and it had an adjustable trigger in it but I preferred to put in the Timney.

That early trigger cleans up very well.  You'll get 3lbs and no creep on the stock unaltered spring in 99% of them.

They make a after market seer also that I have had great luck with.  Can't go wrong with a Timney Trigger either just more money.

I had an early model in 257 roberts, had a gunsmith polish the trigger/seer and it was good after that. $25 fix that made it crisp, no creep, and about 3lb or so.

I've got a '74 Model year with the factory adjustable trigger, also set at about 3lbs, love that gun!

Those early rugers also react well to some polishing as the sear is usually as,smooth as the stone used to clean them up.

I replaced the spring in my ruger m77 7mm.  Made a big difference.  Purchased it from erniethegunsmith.com.  Little over $10 with shippinf.
