Have the kid go to court and tell the judge exactly how it went.  It'll be a good experience for the kid, and likely the judge will reduce or remove the fine.

Indeed it seems petty, however it's a good learning experience.

" In today's instant gratification society, more and more pressure revolves around success and the measurement of one's prowess as a hunter by inches on a score chart or field photos produced on social media. Don't fall into the trap. Hunting is-and always will be- about the hunt, the adventure, the views, and time spent with close friends and family. " Ryan Hatfield

I highly doubt admitting guilt is the best way to get this dismissed. But go for it personally I'd let a lawyer to handle it if it's a big deal to you.

Sounds pretty typical to me. Power trip LEO. Probably made his day. Did the kid cry when they got the ticket I bet that would have really made the Leo feel good.

Ya that's pretty typical. When I say we need to downsize government, the first thing that comes to my mind is the number of LEO's. You can't drive down the road without seeing a LEO every 5 cars in my home town. They need to write lots of tickets to pay their gas bill for driving big V8 engines around all day. Should be in a Prius.

The town you live in, if it's Orting, has a one officer minimum with a max of two on duty at one time not including the chief. And a couple of their patrol cars are old piles of crap.

Absolutely fight it.  If the kid wants to participate in the Master Hunter program he will not be able w/a conviction.

And it seems to always be a car less than a year or year and a half old.  Those 2014 models just won't cut it for gov work, but Windows 2000 is the new great software.

The WSP cars we service are mostly brand new-ish. 2014 Explorers and  by the time they're 2 or so years old, they usually have 80-100k miles on them at that point. Once they're 3-4 years old they'd be over 200k miles. From a reliability standpoint, when should they be retired?
Obviously when they can't do the job anymore.  I just remember seeing a FS LEO doing about 45 over some bad washboards and potholes and when we saw the guy later on, my buddy asked him about how often it has to go to the shop for flying over bad roads and the guy was like 'meh, we get a new one every other year regardless'.

Funny how they stick to the letter of the law with US citizens..
If I need a permit and education to buy a firearm than women should need a permit and education  before getting an abortion.

Voting for Democrats is prima facie evidence you are a skirt wearing, low T, beta male. Do better.

This sounds typical for the "Want-to-be" cops in the Fish and Game Department.

How old is the kid?

17 years old. Comes from a great family and has always followed the rules. I just hate to see him have to pay for something so petty. Due to not wanting to miss school he will probably just pay it.

Granted it's petty, but he did technically break the law. Is he old enough to know better?

I agree. All I'm gonna say is I'd like to hear the officers side of the story.  :fishin:

I don't understand this crap. It seems like there is more and more now that write whatever they can. I have learned more from my youth days when a LEO confronted me about something. I took a girl on a "date" in high school. Went down to the river bottoms, spent a summer afternoon catching little 3-4 inch perch and bluegill and such. Then a warden shows up right behind us. Asks to see our licenses. She did not have one, this is the first time she fished in years and we actually hadn't thought of it. Our mistake, I accept that. We were respectful and told the truth and that we honestly didn't think of it. He told me "now why don't you take the young lady into town and buy a 3 day license or something minimal. Said that he would check the computer system before he gets off of shift. Took her name and info. He said that if it showed that she had one in the system by the end of the day, no ticket. No license and she will get one in the mail. He could obviously tell we were on a date of some kind and that I felt pretty guilty about it, and that all we had was a can of worms and poles barely more than a Disney spincast haha.

That's complete BS. How is it when the neighbor called the cops on a party 5 different Orting cop cars pull up? And I'm not just talking about Orting PD, there is state patrol and sherif coming through all day as well. I do have a few retired cop friends down here that are good guys, just saying need to downsize IMO

That would make too much sense.  When I was a kid and in my 20's I used to run into Bill Jarmon, Rich Mann and others who are well known for being tough on offenders.  There is a big difference between being tough and being a Barney Fife style horses *** and although there were times we  probably could have gotten a ticket we got advice that "we might want to be a little more careful to pay attention to the rules next time."

He was seventeen he knew he needed a license.  Stop making excuses for people who break the laws.  So cop lets him off that tells the kid that he doesn't need a license cause the warden will just let him slide. Anytime someone gets caught they make up some story to sound like they are the victim and the officer is the big meanie.  Boo hoo follow the rules and you won't have these problems.  This wasnt some twelve year old kid.

Call city hall and ask them. They don't have five working at a time I can assure you. If you saw five then PCSO was with them.
