Squirrel Pot Pie
« on: April 11, 2016, 06:46:21 PM »
Hi All!

Daughter: "Dad! Do you think we could make squirrel-pot-pie?"

Dad: "Ummm....well....oh hell yes lets try! I'll go grab your gun, you get the dog."

And with that my daughter's quest for her own hunting and cooking show continues. We've been hunting on a large tract of private land and my daughter's noticed that we've been having to hunt harder and further to fill the game bag - she's understanding that her hunting influence is having an effect. So based on obvious territorial markers such as massive maddens and signs of high squirrel activity, we've been watching and have identified 6 squirrels (5 females and one male so far as I can tell...I never thought I'd be studying squirrels private areas through the spotting scope!) that get the free pass.

Hunting the rest of the property we've been having to work pretty hard, so this is likely her last squirrel episode until next fall/winter so the little suckers can, in her words, "re-populate" a bit.

Her next video - "step-by-step practice with your shotgun!"

Thanks so much for watching, she and I both get a big kick out of reading all your comments together.

Cheers,

Brobee

She's a crack shot! She can hunt deer with me any time! I don't think she would have a problem shooting a deer rifle! Age limit set by?......

I hear you! She's 10 years old right now, unfortunately to legally hunt deer in my home province of Alberta (Canada) she needs to be 12. This summer we're going to start practicing for deer by moving her up from her CZ 452 Scout .22lr to a CZ 527 in 7.62x39....I can't wait!

That was awesome!!!
I loved it!!!
I think she's ready for deer regardless of her age. It's instruction that makes one ready. Not age.
Two thumbs up for her father who is a great instructor!

Really, really, really great video. I loved watching her blast those squirrels and I liked seeing the dog watching her. And then to top off the hunting part with a good looking recipe......the video had it all. Well done!
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

Gray squirrels can be pretty smart at times. We used to hunt them years ago in CA but if I went by myself they would always circle the tree to the other side. I started wearing a hat and wait for him to circle, then I'd throw my hat to his side and he would come around to my side so I could shoot him!

It brings back memoirs of me and my daughters hunting, fishing and trapping.  Thanks

Tell her, it looks like she is also going to be a good cook.
