colockum cow tags
« on: May 05, 2016, 11:37:21 AM »
Wondering why the department  would start modern cow tags (permits) on Nov 4th , a Friday and run it to the 8th, that's two days after the spike season ends? Is this a mistake?

Looks like a mistake to me. It's the same dates as last year, which would have been Wednesday through Sunday. Probably should be Nov 2-6 this year.

Looks like those who draw actual get a couple days after the masses leave.  Win win

I would bet that they'll get the dates correct on the actual permit. If you send them an email they'll probably post the correct dates on their website.

I contacted the game department on this and here was the reply:

Thank you for contacting the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The dates are correct.  This allows the special permit holder a couple days outside of the season to hunt a popular area with fewer hunters.

Sincerely,

I think it was done for the spike hunters.  They get a couple more days before the war starts and reduces their chances by a lot.

Weird.

Not sure why it's so weird? It's not uncommon in other units to either have the cow tags start either a few days before general season starts, or in this case, a few days after.

Last year it went from Wednesday to Sunday. This year Friday to Tuesday. They normally would adjust the dates so it would be Wednesday to Sunday again. It's almost like they forgot to do that, and instead of admitting a mistake, just decided to come up with an excuse and say they did it for a reason. And it's not starting after the general season ends. General season starts October 29 and goes to November 6. The cow permit is November 4-8. That's why I said it was weird.

sounds to me like they did it to make it harder on the cow hunters, good luck finding them after they have been shot at and chased for a few extra days, I got my cow on day three there last year. Had to make sure and keep my head down so it wasn't shot off too. Lots of hunters, poachers, idiots, and game wardens there.
